Director of Technology Transfer- Research Office

Duties:

Coordinate and manage Montana Tech technology transfer, patenting, and licensing. Act as a technical liaison between Tech inventors and approved patent lawyers. Coordinate with inventors on actions needed for successful utility patent filing. Identify, promote, and harvest invention disclosures on campus. Collaborate with MilTech in Bozeman on performing technology viability assessments to increase success rate of inventions.  Create training materials for faculty on patenting and licensing. Oversee and update processes and procedures in the research office related to patenting.

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Experience as an effective manager of people and processes

    • Managing third party resources to execute plans or strategies
  • Developing and improving processes and tools

  • Budget management

  • Prioritizing of opportunities

  • Ability to work within and across multidisciplinary teams

  • General understanding of intellectual property (IP) and commercialization issues (see Preferred Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's degree in science, engineering, or technology

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a broad range of IP and commercialization issues

    • IP disclosures
  • IP assessment

  • Patenting / protection of IP

  • License negotiation

  • Market research

  • Commercialization planning

  • Prior work in a University setting

  • Experience training others and creating modules related to technology transfer

  • Master's degree or higher in science, engineering, or technology
