Montana Employer General Ranch Hand in ALZADA, Montana

Temporary full-time position from 2/1/2020 to 11/30/2020All job duties are closely and directly related to the production of crops and livestock. The larger percentage of the work activities will be related to general farmwork/livestock production. Perform any combination of the following tasks required in general farmwork and the production of crops: all duties related to the production and harvest of crops, including but not limited to, maintain/drive/attach and operate farm implements/tractors/equipment to till soil, plant, cultivate, fertilize, apply chemicals and harvest, perform some maintenance and adjustments to implements/tractors/equipment, evaluate the condition of the crop/weather and adjust harvesting activity based on evaluation; additional farmwork duties may include building and maintenance of farm structures, loading/unloading trucks, removal of excess plant growth from farm grounds. Performing maintenance may require welding and metal work. Perform any combination of the following tasks attending to livestock: feed and water livestock or ensure adequate provision of both; herd livestock to appropriate grazing areas; assist animals with birthing and health of offspring; examine animals to detect diseases and injuries; guard animals from predatory animals and from eating poisonous and/or noxious plants; assist with the vaccination and/or artificial insemination of livestock by herding into corrals and/or stalls or manually restraining animals; apply medications to cuts and bruises; spray livestock with insecticide; assist with castration of livestock; clip identifying notches on or brand animals; assist with irrigating forage for livestock, apply weed control on grazing areas; build and/or repair fence and livestock facilities to contain or protect livestock; clean and disinfect livestock corrals, pens and handling facilities; lift and stack bales of hay and sacks of grain and mineral onto a feed truck or wagon; assist in the maintenance of tools, machinery, equipment and livestock handling facilities necessary to livestock production. Employee must be willing to perform tasks capably and efficiently without close supervision, and live and work singly or in small groups of workers in isolated areas for extended periods of time. May be required to ride, handle and tend horses in a manner to assure the safety and health of the worker, co-workers, horses and livestock. The job will entail working with and around farm machinery such as tractors for haying and supplemental feeding purposes and ATVs for irrigating and the movement of livestock, periodically. Successful applicants will be expected to operate machinery and equipment in a safe and responsible manner, and further, will be expected to maintain equipment and machinery to a standard established by the employer. Employee will work outdoors in all types of weather and may experience occasional exposure to hazards such as poisonous snakes and extreme temperatures. 100 lb lifting and driving requirement is needed. 6 mos. experience required. The expected work schedule is eight hours per day Monday thru Saturday and may be required in a split shift due to the nature of job duties. Actual hours may vary due to weather, time of year and the requirements of crop production. Work may be offered more than the specified hours per day, but only required to work the hours specified. Work may be offered 7 days a week but only required 6 days a week. Work may be requested, not required, on Sabbath and/or Federal holidays.
