About this position:

The O&M Supervisor is under the general direction of the Montana Production Superintendent and performs leadership duties that will ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operation of the Generation Plant. Performs all duties in compliance with plant policies, procedures, rules, and regulations pertaining to operations, safety, conduct, and housekeeping. Protects the investment in machinery, equipment and facilities by exercising care, skill and knowledge.

    About this job:

  • Demonstrates leadership consistent with NorthWestern Energy's code, values, policies, processes and controls

  • Utilizes effective management practices to maintain employee engagement and productivity

  • Effectively manages budget, ensuring proper cost controls

  • Leads special projects as required utilizing effective change and project management techniques

  • Oversees the monitoring, inspection, and control of all power production, auxiliary and facility equipment to ensure safe, legal, continuous and efficient operation. Ensures that plant emissions and effluents are within limits. Takes action necessary to prevent any safety violations, environmental excursions, or production loss.

  • Reports discrepancies in operation and/or conditions in a timely manner

  • Provides general directions to subordinate classifications

  • Directs and trains others in the inspection, repair, and operation of the facility. Assists in the training of the Plant Operations and Maintenance staff

  • Performs assigned tasks in the qualification program for the plant staff

  • Relieves Plant Operators, when required, in times of personnel shortage

  • On limited basis, performs hands-on operational maintenance repairs, where necessary, and assists others making repairs to all equipment

  • Generates maintenance work order requests and purchases requisition requests. Is familiar with CMMS

  • Assists Plant Superintendent in development and monitoring of plant budget, operating plan, and development of technicians. Performs other duties as assigned by the Plant Superintendent

  • Continually develops knowledge of the plant and power plants in general

  • Provides hands-on leading-edge approaches to the facility's safety, health and training program

  • Assists the Compliance Coordinator with the Environmental QA/QC program and compliance with all environmental regulatory requirements

  • Prepare and submit required reports to the Plant Superintendent for the Owner and/or utility

  • Oversee the daily upkeep of necessary plant logs and records

  • Maintain the plant operations manuals and assure that operating policies and procedures are kept up-to-date

  • Perform individual lifts and manipulate equipment weighing up to 50 pounds

    Am I right for this job? Here's the success profile:

  • Bachelor's Degree or 8 years of equivalent experience with 5 years power plant

  • Gas turbine experience desired

  • Budget, cost control, scheduling, reporting experience, familiarity with power plant design

  • Demonstrate and maintain a good safety record

  • Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record

  • "On call" status required

  • Must be able to work extended hours and varied shifts with weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, work load and plant conditions

  • Minimum of 2 years' experience supervising or leading technical and administrative personnel

  • Strong leadership and motivational skills required

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
