State of Montana Highway Maintenance Tech - CDL Driver/Equipment Operator - Baker in Baker, Montana

TheMontana Department of Transportationis recruiting a Maintenance Technician in Baker. This position performs a variety of work as a laborer, lead worker, equipment operator, and truck driver for highway maintenance activities. Operates various trucks and a variety of heavy equipment to perform culvert placement and installation/cleaning, landslide removal, crack/mastic sealing, fence building or bridge repair, guardrail or sign installation, luminaire maintenance, roadway repair, vegetation and roadside maintenance, pavement marking and striping operations, and snow and ice control. This position participates in theHigh School to Highways program. These team members will assist with the maintenance and operations of the state highways, and adjacent right of ways to assure they remain in a condition that promotes the movement of traffic, and safety to the motoring public. With “High School to Highways,” selected candidates are hired as an entry-level Highway Maintenance Tech, provided a formal on-the-job training plan, and paired with a mentor to coach and support them toward obtaining the experience and credentials needed to advance their career in Transportation. Applicants with a learner’s permit have 30 days to obtain the necessary Montana Commercial Operators License. * Applicants not meeting the minimum qualifications may qualify for the high school to highway program under a training assignment. Employees in training assignments may be paid below the base pay established by the agency pay rules. Conditions of the training assignment will be stated in writing at the time of hire. High School to Highway Program: * You may be hired into this position without your CDL and 1 year of experience. Training will be provided. Training assignment salary will be set at $25.59 per hour. * Must be at least 18 years old. * A valid driver’s license. Skills required: * Basic math, record keeping, computer skills and the ability to make estimates of materials needed. * Basic computer skills to communicate and retrieve information. * The ability to respond to emergency call outs, work different and/or extended shifts on short notice (days, nights, and weekends), and perform standby duty. * The ability to manipulate and transport up to 50 pounds. * Communicate effectively with diverse groups utilizing oral, written, and electronic communication methods. Other Requirements: * Driver’s record will be verified. Successful applicants will be required to sign a release form which authorizes the Department to obtain the applicant’s permanent driving records. * If you have a CDL, registration to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Clearinghouse is required. * Successful applicant must live or relocate within 45 road miles of the assigned maintenance section and must have a telephone or be reasonably accessible to the section headquarters. * Relocation assistance may be offered to the candidate at the time of offer. This position is part of a career ladder with opportunities to advance. Maintenance Tech Level I ($26.09): · One (1) year experience driving heavy truck or operating construction equipment. Maintenance Tech Level II ($26.59) · One (1) year of documented experience from MDT,State, County, City or Tribal highway maintenance experience.
