Position Title: Head Football Coach FY2425_119 Reports to: Athletic Director and High School Administration Location: Belgrade High School Salary: $7175.00 Stipend Season Dates: August 15, 2025 - Nov 18, 2025 PURPOSE: Develops, oversees and manages day-to-day operations of the football program for grades 9-12. REPORTS TO: 1. In the performance of duties, the Head Football Coach is responsible to and under the supervision of the Activities Director, along with the high school Administration. Coordinates the specific duties listed below with the Activities Director. ESSENTAIL JOB FUNCTIONS: Cooperates with the High School Administration for Activities in enforcing the Montana High School Association rules and by-laws and the regulations of the league in which the school holds membership. Determines the responsibilities of the assistant coaches in keeping with their job descriptions. Implement and enforces all Board policies relating to the conduct of student athletes. Assists the Activities Director in arranging a competition schedule. Organizes tryouts and selections of teams. Provides the Activities Director with an alphabetized list of team members two weeks prior to the first contest. Organizes and supervises all high school practices and activities. Teaches skills and strategies important to success of individual athletes and teams. Is responsible for the health, welfare, and training needs of the athletes while participating in school events. Serious problems will be referred to the parents of the athlete. Organizes and supervises the transportation to and from all contests in accordance with District policy. Supervises student athletes and directs the team at all home and away contests. Develops and/or administers an off-season conditioning program for those athletes who voluntarily choose to participate. Develops a program to make colleges aware of football players who may be capable of and interested in continuing with football at the appropriate level of college competition. Colleges will be advised as to how and when to contact the athletes. Keeps news media informed of team's activities. Attends clinics necessary to remain updated with regard to successful coaching organization, methods, and strategies. Attends conferences and other coaches' organizational meetings as needed. Attends postseason program designed to recognize and honor the players for their team and individual achievements. Manages the acquisition, distribution, and collection of all uniforms and equipment. All uniforms and equipment must be returned, inventoried, and stored at the end of the season. Helmet reconditioning per NOCSAE regulations. Initiates in writing, to the Activities Director, the requests for purchasing uniforms, equipment, and supplies. Must follow the proper protocols in place for purchasing. Assists in the evaluation of assistant coaches at all levels. Attends annual rules meeting to learn changes in rules associated with sport he is coaching. Assist with Summer Strength and Conditioning program. Assists, participated and encourages in the pre-season’s fundraising. Train a statistician and work closely with them for timely and reliable statistics. Responsible to maintain and update the programs records and statistics on a yearly basis. 26. Performs other related duties as assigned. Flexibility for practice schedules and locations due to unforeseen circumstantial situations such as inclement weather, smoke or snow. Posts lettering requirements at the start of each season for the student athletes and files them with the athletic director. QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Valid Montana teaching certificate (preferred). Current First Aid certificate. Minimum of three years coaching experience MHSA coaching certification, or in process of obtaining (nfhslearn.org) WORK SCHEDULE: The responsibility is seasonal and follows the calendar of the Montana High School Association for practice sessions and contests. The football season runs from August through November. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Valid teaching certificate or equivalent hours and courses in coaching theory is preferred. Experience in coaching, first-aid, CPR, and sports medicine. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of students or employees of the district. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Exhibit qualities of leadership and organizational ability and reflect a spirit of cooperation in working with staff and school administration. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Trustees policies.
