Title: Interim Elementary Principal Saddle Peak School 2022-2023-202 Reports To: This position reports directly to the Superintendent of the Belgrade School District. Location: Saddle Peak School Starting Date: May 1, 2023 Salary: Contract of remaining period of salary FSLA status: Exempt Purpose: The Belgrade School District seeks a dynamic leader with great communication skills to serve as the Interim Principal of the Saddle Peak Elementary School from May 1-June 16. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Serves as the Chief Administrator of the assigned building. Successfully works with the Belgrade Board of Trustees and Superintendent in the drafting and execution of the budget, public relations issues, and in communication with parents and the community. Develops and administers a quality educational program within the guidelines and standard developed by the Board of Trustees and the Office of Public Instruction. Performs teacher and professional staff evaluations following District protocol. Supervises, oversees, and evaluates performance of clerical, cafeteria, paraprofessionals and other classified employees to maintain quality support services. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Board policies and rules, regulations and directives. Develops and maintains strong working relations with community organizations and leaders. Holds frequent meetings and conferences with teachers, students, and parents to address educational and discipline problems. Acts as liaison between parents and professional staff in operating programs for students with learning disabilities, physical or psychological limitations, and other special needs. Maintains a visible presence in the building and playground to enforce safety and Security standards for students and faculty. Works with staff to prepare yearly budget requests and monitors spending to conform to budget restrictions. Supervises allocation of equipment, educational material, and supplies in conformance with approved expenditures. Supervises preparation of attendance reports, test results, and other reports as required by the Office of Public Instruction and other agencies. Develops and maintains a strong relationship with the parents of the school, its PTO, the general community, and the local media. Assumes responsibility for creating a safe and effective learning environment. Only minimum duties are listed. Other functions may be required as given or assigned. DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Valid Class 3 Montana teacher certificate with principal’s endorsement or the ability to obtain a Montana Teacher certificate upon offer of employment. A successful career as a certified teacher. Successful experience in managing, supervising, and evaluating staff. Demonstrated interpersonal skills and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, teachers, administrators and parents. Strong decision-making skills. Demonstrated the ability to develop and manage a budget. Knowledge Skills and Abilities Knowledge of the Principal’s role in establishing and maintaining academic rigor and a safe learning environment. Knowledge of federal and state laws that apply to education, specifically FERPA. Ability to interpret and apply collective bargaining agreements. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from staff, parents, and the general public. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both oral and written form. Ability to inspire the students to become the leaders and intellectuals of the future, and to lead and guide the teachers in a dynamic, fair and transparent working environment through professional development. Ability to handle stressful situations. Ability to multitask with competing demands. Ability to maintain confidentiality of employment and student matters. Ability to effectively manage time and responsibilities. Skill in demonstrated leadership ability and general knowledge of issues and problems in all aspects of the elementary school. Skill and ability to collaborate effectively with other district administrators. Skill in modeling leadership skills required for academic success: integrity, trust, clear and open communication, fairness, high standards, a commitment to the students and family of the school. Possess excellent organizational skills to provide effective administration. WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works inside. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints. The employee frequently will work irregular or extended hours while performing the duties of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; occasionally walk and stand. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is required to be able to hear conversations in quiet environments. MENTAL/MOTOR DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee rarely performs routine work. The employee frequently exercises flexibility (ability to shift from one task to another). Guidance and reinforcement are infrequently available. The employee frequently works within time constraints and maintains attentiveness intensity. The employee is frequently involved in social interactions which require oral and written communications.
