POSITION SUMMARY:

Outfitters here at Moonlight are responsible for a large array of outdoor related job duties in a fun mountain setting. Moonlight Outfitter is a position requiring extensive outdoor facilitation experience and the personality and ability to relate to and build trust with Moonlight Basin members and guests in a safe and fun learning environment. Activities guides/hosts will occasionally facilitate member activities such as Snowshoe tours, Nordic lessons, Fat tire biking as well as attend to the outdoor skating rink, snow tubing hill, fire pits and conduct all snow removal and occasional yurt events. Safety and fun within a unique outdoor experience are the ultimate goals of the Moonlight Outfitters.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each job function satisfactorily, which may include some or all of the follwing:

o Plan, organize, and provide safe, fun, and professional instruction within the guidelines of the Moonlight Outfitters.

o Certifications/ Training

· Wilderness First Aid Preferred

· CPR Certification Required-Ask about opportunities if not currently Certified.

o Report to work on time with a professional attitude and appearance.

o Meet and greet clients on time with a professional attitude and appearance.

o Facilitate and lead outdoor activities in group and private settings.

o Assess member/guest skills and tailor session appropriately for ability, goals, and environmental conditions.

o Interact comfortably and seamlessly with an affluent group of members and their guests.

o Determine client’s needs for the tour and work towards exceeding those expectations.

o Conduct lessons and guiding with safety as the first priority in a mountain environment.

o Assist in booking/ scheduling guided trips and events by gathering basic information.

o Maintain rental equipment and help with Nordic, fat bike and snowshoe rentals.

o Serve members and guests beer, wine, hot drinks and snacks from yurt bar.

o Maintain all walkways and decking keeping snow and ice cleared using snow shovels, ice chipper, brushes and gas-powered snow blower.

o Learn and operate a small snow blower. Clear ice rink of snow multiple times per day as needed.

o Keep outdoor/indoor fire pits/stove burning, start fires and split wood/kindling daily.

o Operate a snowmobile on occasion.

o Supervise the tubing hill and assess for safety concerns with changing snow conditions.

o Keep yurt area clean inside and out.

o Sign out for days’ activities and determine the next day’s schedule with Supervisor or Director.

o Communicate all concerns, questions, and scheduling issues with Director/Supervisor.

o Participate in all required training and educational clinics.

o Read and understand all safety policies and guidelines. Ask supervisor/ director for clarification on any policy you may not understand.

o Attend all safety training meetings and clinics. Maintain current knowledge of all safety procedures.

o Operate a snowmobile regularly. Assist in Nordic rescue response.

o Operate machinery, chain saws, and small engine equipment.

o Assist in family downhill ski races at Big Sky resort helping with race timing and setup.

QUALIFICATIONS :

o High School diploma and/or equivalent education.

o Experience guiding or facilitating client-based winter and summer recreational programs in terrain similar to that found in SW Montana.

o Valid driver’s license.

o Similar combination of education and experience

o The structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words.

o Excellent interpersonal skills.

o Resourcefulness, good judgment, and self-confidence.

o Understands Winter Mountain hazards and ways to minimize risks for yourself and your clients.

o Familiarity with flora and fauna, geography, and geology of SW Montana.

o Moonlight Basin emergency and incident procedures.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to stand, sit, walk, hike, bike, for six to ten hours a day as required.

  • Ability to use various tools and equipment as required.

  • Work outside in all temperatures and conditions six to ten hours a day as required.

  • Bend at the waist, twist upper body, kneel, crawl, climb, reach above shoulders, flex and extend ankle, knee, and hip joints.

  • Lift and carry up to 50 lbs., push and pull 10-20 lbs.

  • Ability to work as many as 14 days consecutively during peak periods.
