Bozeman Health Medical Lab Technician- Big Sky (0.9 FTE/ Nights) in Big Sky, Montana

Position Summary:

Performs maintenance, calibration and quality control in a wide variety of clinical laboratory setting. Performs analysis on blood and other body fluids. Reviews and analyzes data from calibration, quality control and patient testing. Testing will include that defined as “waived” or “moderately complex”. Treats healthcare providers, patients and co-workers professionally with an eye towards achieving a high level of customer service and satisfaction. May assist in training students and new staff. Manages supplies and inventory. If Team Lead, responsible for evaluation of quality control data, calibration data, proficiency testing and instruments maintenance records within their specific department.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required

  • Associates Degree in clinical laboratory science from an accredited college or university OR equivalent

  • Montana Licensure (Clinical Laboratory Technician License)

  • If Team Lead, at least two years’ experience as a laboratory scientist or laboratory technician

Preferred

  • Certified Medical Laboratory Technologist or Technician (ASCP)

Essential Job Functions:

In addition to the essential functions of the job listed below, employees must have on-time completion of all required education as assigned per DNV requirements, Bozeman Health policy, and other registry requirements.

  • Calibrate and operate automated laboratory instruments

  • Perform manual testing according to written procedures

  • Enter, approve and validate results and manipulate data in the Laboratory Information System

  • Monitor results, quality control and instrument conditions, investigating outliers and deviations

  • Troubleshoot and repair instruments, assist with developing new procedures, assists with orienting and training, preparation of reagents and controls

  • Assist with patient care as needed

  • If Team Lead, calibrate and operate instruments and perform manual testing according to written procedures. Enter results and data in the Laboratory Information System.

  • Advanced math skills; ability to collect, analyze, interpret and/or present complex data.

Physical Requirements

  • Lifting, Pushing, and Pulling: Lift 30 pounds of weight (pick up supplies, move equipment, etc.) Carry equipment/supplies.

  • Extended Hours: The role may involve working for extended periods, requiring sitting, walking, or standing for eight or more hours daily.

  • Flexible Schedule: The position may necessitate working beyond a standard 40-hour workweek, including weekends and after-hours shifts

  • On-Call Availability: On-call work may be required to respond promptly to organizational, patient, or employee needs

  • Effective Communication: Proficient in effective communication, both in person and through various technologies

  • Handling Challenging Situations: The role may involve dealing with upset individuals, requiring the ability to de-escalate situations and work effectively with frustrated patients, families, or employees

  • Repetitive Tasks: Ability to perform repetitive tasks as needed to fulfill job responsibilities

Tasks Include Potential Exposure: Job tasks may involve exposure to:

  • Bloodborne pathogens, such as blood, bodily fluids, or tissues.

  • Radiation in settings where medical imaging procedures are performed

  • Various chemicals and medications used in healthcare settings. Job tasks may involve handling cleaning products, disinfectants, and other substances.

  • Infectious diseases due to contact with patients in areas that may have contagious illnesses
