Billings Clinic Cytotechnologist in Billings / Billings, Montana




Part-Time (.5 - .74)


0.50 = 40 hours

Under general supervision, microscopicallyevaluates cells for cancer and pathologic conditions. Makes independentjudgments and decisions for diagnosing results and correlating clinicalinformation with microscopic observations. Acts as a lead for thecytotechnology department, including assisting with the day to day operationsof the department, responsible for quality control and regulatory readiness ofdepartment.

EssentialJob Functions
Supports and models behaviors consistent with Billings Clinic’s mission, vision, values, code of business conduct and service expectations. Meets all mandatory organizational and departmental requirements. Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental and outside agency standards as it relates to the environment, employee, patient safety or job performance.
Microscopically evaluates all specimen types for pathologic processes, primarily for precancerous and cancerous conditions. Responsible for processing non-gynecologic specimens. Assists physicians with fine needle aspiration biopsies throughout the Billings Clinic at the patient’s location. Advise the physician of the specimen adequacy. Enters results of the cytologic examination into the computer system and generates final cytologic report. (Patient Care - Laboratory - Cytology Reports)
Prepares slides for processing, accessioning, computer entry, staining and coverslipping. Files and labels slides. (Patient Care - Laboratory - Cytology Slide Prep)
Prepares and replenishes laboratory solutions, filters, stains and reagents according to the rotation schedule and performs preventive maintenance on laboratory equipment. (Environment of Care - Equipment & Supplies - Laboratory Supplies)
Completes quality control forms, personal statistics and lab statistics on a daily basis according to regulations. (Quality & Regulatory - Quality Control - Laboratory Quality Control)
Performs other duties as requested or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

•Regulatory requirements and standards (Joint Commission,OSHA, etc.)
•Biology, histology, anatomy, physiology and detailedknowledge of the practice of cytotechnology
•Professional communication skills, both verbal andwritten
•Incorporate population specific needs into all aspectsof communication and patient care; scope of services provided will encompassage groups ranging from infant through geriatric
•Communicate clearly and effectively, both verbal andwritten
•Establish and maintain collaborative relationships
•Work effectively in a team environment
•Work independently with minimal supervision
•Analyze data and make independent judgments in regard toselection of appropriate procedures, equipment and supplies
•Maintain flexibility to adapt to a variety of work loadassignments

3-5 years experience as a cytotechnologist
Certificationsand Licensure
Certified, or eligible for certification, incytotechnology by the American Society or Clinical Pathologists.
Current Montana license as cytotechnologist orability to become licensed within one (1) month of hire Additionalqualifications for Lead

Or an equivalent combination of education andexperience relating to the above tasks, knowledge, skills and abilities will beconsidered
