Morrison-Maierle Civil/Construction Engineering Technology in Billings, Montana

Morrison-Maierle has exciting opportunities for Civil/Construction Engineering Technology Positions based in our Billings, Montana, office. This unique position involves a combination of both office-based and field-based duties, encompassing the responsibilities and duties of an entry-level engineer intern and a resident project representative.

Field-Based Duties (Resident Project Representative Duties):

  • Act as a liaison between the construction site and the engineering team.

  • Conduct on-site observation to monitor construction progress, quality, and general compliance with design plans and specifications.

  • Document and report any deviations from project requirements.

  • Collaborate with contractors, engineers, and other stakeholders to address construction-related issues.

  • Basic surveying and quantity measurements.

  • Keep detailed records of daily activities and produce regular progress reports for project management.

  • Quality control oversight and testing.

  • Familiarity with construction site practices and safety protocols.

Office-Based Duties:

  • Collaborate as a team member with engineers and project managers in the preparation of design plans, specifications, and construction documents.

  • Utilize computer-aided design (CAD) software and other engineering tools to create and modify project drawings.

  • Assist with quantity and cost estimation for projects before bidding.

  • Conduct engineering calculations and analyses to support the design and planning phases of projects.

  • Assist in the coordination of project activities, ensuring adherence to timelines and budget constraints.

  • Communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders to convey project updates and address inquiries.

  • Perform constructability reviews of projects in design.

  • Participate in the review and approval of project submittals, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

Qualifications:

  • Entry-level to senior levels of experience.

  • Bachelor or Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or related field

  • Capable of working outside on construction sites and at the project site for the duration of the project.

  • Willingness to work in remote locations around the region during the week when needed for a project and to travel to and from the project site every week or possibly longer assignments. Extended hours are sometimes required.

  • Detail oriented.

  • Excellent written, oral, interpersonal communication, and conflict resolution skills.

  • A proactive approach to problem-solving.

  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and an insurable driving record.

Value-added skills or certifications could include:

  • Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software and other engineering tools.

  • Engineer Intern certification, or ability to obtain one within 6 months.

  • Experience with construction materials testing and quality assurance.

Salary: $55,000 - $75,000 per year
