Job Summary of Roles and Responsibilities

POWER Engineers is currently seeking an experienced, energetic, self-starting team member with a strong structural engineering background to perform engineering design activities for electrical substations. This position is in the Substation Department of our Power Delivery Division in our Billings, Montana office.

Responsibilities

  • All aspects of substation structural design including preparation of steel performance drawings, fabrication drawings, foundation design and construction inspection.

  • Development of steel and concrete construction specifications, cost estimates, engineering proposals, and project schedules.

  • Support of substation physical design with bus analysis calculations and coordinating with multiple disciplines on results.

  • Preparation of calculation packages to satisfy client and code requirements.

  • Occasional travel is required to build relationships with team members and clients.

  • Understand and implement client specific design standards.

Required Education/Experience

  • BSCE (Bachelor of Science in Civil/Structural Engineering) degree from an accredited college.

  • 3+ years structural design experience.

  • Finite Element modeling experience; Risa3D or STAAD Pro.

  • Familiarity with steel detailing.

  • Foundation analysis design software experience.

  • The candidate must have strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel.

  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship.

Desired Education/Experience

  • Experience in electric utility substation design (15kV through 500kV) is a plus.

  • Ability to independently create calculation packages.

  • Understanding of ASCE 7-10 loading requirements.

  • Ability to perform basic civil engineering tasks.

  • AutoCAD or MicroStation experience is a plus.

  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.

  • Professional engineering licensure is a plus.
