St. John's Lutheran Ministries Clinical Laboratory Scientist in Billings, Montana

Monday - Friday: 7am-6pm!

Summary:

The Clinical Lab Scientist is responsible for the quality testing in all areas of the laboratory for St. John’s United while supporting the mission of the organization. Participates in highly-complex laboratory testing for St. John’s United Clinical Laboratory. Maintains knowledge of Medical Laboratory principles, practices, standards, requirements and techniques. Must complete competencies and training. Remains flexible to daily work tasks and offers peer collaboration.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION: Clinical Laboratory Scientist

  • Upholds high ethical standards while utilizing lab protocols for patient testing

  • Develops, implements, and maintains policies and procedures

  • Accounts for daily supplies and inventory

  • Responsible for technical development, implementation and integration within areas of technical expertise, to include instrument acquisition, logistic support and laboratory information systems integration

  • Specimen collection, processing, and storage.

  • Monitors Electronic Health Records and other information systems

  • Continuing clinical education for on-going certification and licensures related to clinical laboratories, while keeping updated with ongoing changes

  • Performs preventative maintenance and troubleshooting for all equipment and instrumentation

  • Assists in technical evaluation of LIS and process validation

  • Maintains records and prepares reports related to work. Verifies accuracy of all testing results and reports before they are submitted into EMR.

  • Other duties as assigned

Follows policy and procedures on TB testing. Follows policy and procedures on annual influenza vaccinations. Completes all mandatory training Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum Requirements: Preferred Bachelors degree in Medical Technology or related Health Science Specialty. Meets CLIA requirements for Medical Laboratory Scientist. At least one years of medical technologist experience in an acute care facility. Registered in accordance with an approved certifying agency (ASCP, NCA, AMT or equivalent). Licensure, as required by State law.

Required Knowledge, Skills Abilities:

  • Thorough knowledge of Laboratory principles, practices, standards and techniques
  • Knowledge of CLSI updates and changes applicable to the laboratory
  • Knowledge of Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS)
