CITY OF BILLINGS COMBINATION INSPECTOR I / II / III in BILLINGS, Montana
The City of Billings is seeking a Combination Inspector I / II / III to perform technical building inspection work involved in enforcing compliance with building codes, regulations and ordinances. Combination Inspector I. This is the entry level in the Combination Inspector class series. Positions at this level usually exercise less independent discretion and judgment in matters related to work procedures and methods. In addition, positions at this level do not possess all certifications required for those positions allocated to the Combination Inspector II level. Combination Inspector II. This is the full journey level in the Combination Inspector class series. Positions at this level perform the full range of duties as assigned, working independently and exercising judgment and initiative. Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise, and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. Combination Inspector III. This is the master level in the Combination Inspector class series. Positions at this level perform the full range of duties as assigned, including the ability to make all inspections performed by the Building Division, work independently and exercise judgment and initiative. Positions at this level receive only limited occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise, and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. Required Qualifications and Skills for all Positions: - High school diploma or equivalent. - A valid Montana driver's license or must have the ability to obtain within sixty (60) days of employment - Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and a State and Federal criminal background check Required Qualifications and Skills for the Combination Inspector I: - Two (2) years of specialized training or work experience in construction, building trades, code enforcement, or a related field - Ability to obtain either International Residential Code (IRC) or International Building Code (IBC) inspector certification within six (6) of employment - Ability to obtain one (1) additional certification (Building, Plumbing, or Mechanical) within twelve (12) months of employment Required Qualifications and Skills for the Combination Inspector II: - Two (2) years of specialized training or work experience in construction, building trades, code enforcement, or a related field - Four (4) years of related work experience in construction, building trades, code enforcement, or a related field including two (2) years' experience in building inspection - Must be a commercial International Building Code (IBC), International Mechanical Code (IMC), and Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC) or residential International Residential Code (IRC), International Mechanical Code (IMC), and Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC) combination inspector Required Qualifications and Skills for the Combination Inspector III: - Three (3) or more years of specialized training in building, plumbing, electrical or mechanical fields - Five (5) years of related work experience in construction, building trades, code enforcement, or a related field, including three (3) years of building inspection experience - Must possess the following certifications: International Building Code (IBC), International Residential Code (IRC), International Mechanical Code (IMC), Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC), and National Electrical Code (NEC). Wage: Salary range reflects Step 1 and Step 4 of a 7-step pay scale. Salary at hiring will be dependent upon the applicant's education, experience, and training - Combination Inspector I: $50,032.11 - $57,993.94 annually. - Combination Inspector II: $54,177.55 - $62,799.15 annually. - Combination Inspector III: $58,666.61 - $71,164.91 annually.
