CITY OF BILLINGS DEPUTY BUILDING OFFICIAL in BILLINGS, Montana
The City of Billings Building Division is seeking a Deputy Building Official, who, under direction will direct, manage, supervise and coordinate the programs and activities of plan review, and plan submittal and intake; to coordinate assigned activities with other City departments, divisions, and outside agencies and participate in the more complex and difficult work of staff responsible for providing permit issuance and plan review services and activities; and to perform a full range of complex plans examining work involved in enforcing compliance with building codes, regulations and ordinances. The successful applicant will also provide highly responsible and complex support to the Building Official and in the absence of the Building Official, manage day to day operations of the division and provide high responsible and complex administrative support to the Planning and Community Services Director. Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: select, train, motivate and evaluate personnel; plan, direct and review the work staff responsible for plan review and permit issuance services; plan and layout work projects; prepare necessary records and reports; and review and examine plans for compliance; assist in the implementation of goals and objectives; and act as Flood Plain Administrator in the Building Official/Flood Plain Administrator's absence.Work Schedule: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.Salary: $30.60 - $42.32 per hour. Salary at hiring will be dependent upon the applicant's education and experience. (This salary range reflects steps 1 and 7 of a 7 step pay scale for this position.)Minimum Qualifications:- Four-year degree in architecture, construction technology, civil engineering or a related field.- Two (2) years' experience in design, construction, plan review, or inspection of commercial and residential buildings.- OR Eight (8) years of combined formal training and experience in plan review and inspection of commercial and residential buildings.- Two (2) years of supervisory and management experience.Preferred Qualifications:- Certification as a Plans Examiner or the ability to obtain within three (3) months.- Certification as a Certified Building Official, or the ability to obtain within one (1) year of year of employment.Equal Opportunity Employer.
