Phillips 66 Energy Lead, Billings Refinery in Billings, Montana

The Energy Lead will lead Billings Refinery in stewardship of good energy management in operations, and identify & assist in development of projects to meet our energy improvement objectives. The role is a key player in our drive to be an industry leader in energy efficiency.

Responsibilities May Include:

  • Manage Energy Stewardship Program at Billings Refinery including:

  • Develop and enhance scorecards, metrics and tools

  • Set targets and goals for Key Energy Variables (KEVs)

  • Track and report energy performance – KEVs, metrics, tool adoption and use

  • Track and report Solomon EII performance to key stakeholders

  • Provide oversight of steam system optimization, including the traps and leaks programs

  • Support implementation of Energy Best Practices

  • Communicate energy program priorities and progress throughout organization

  • Facilitate identification of energy capital projects. The focus of such studies might include:

  • Heat integration improvement

  • Pinch analysis

  • Process configuration

  • Steam and/or fuel balance optimization

  • Actively participate and contribute to Energy Network

  • Lead Refinery Energy Team, set team goals, identify energy savings opportunities and drive to completion

  • Provide leadership for the implementation of key energy initiatives across the site

  • Stay current on emerging energy efficiency technologies, process improvements, equipment design, operating procedures, and industry practices

  • Lead delivery of energy training for site operators, engineers, and craft

Required Qualifications:

  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country

  • Bachelor's degree

  • 5 or more years of industrial experience (or similar plant/process/chemical environment)

  • Must be willing and able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to comply with the following:

  • Travel up to 5% of the time

  • Occasional on-call duties

  • Work extended hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays

  • Transport articles up to 50 pounds

  • Work safely near large, hot, high-speed machines

  • Climb ladders and stairs up to 200 feet in height

  • Work around chemicals, including acids and bases

  • Work around hydrocarbons under high pressure and heat

  • Work outside in harsh weather conditions

  • Wear fire retardant clothing and personal protective equipment (such as steel-toe shoes, ear and eye protection)

  • Maintain face daily so that a respirator/face mask can seal properly (some examples include being free of facial hair and/or clean shaven)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Process Engineering

  • Knowledge of refinery utilities systems

  • Project development experience

  • Knowledge and understanding of Solomon EII methodology

  • Superior communication and organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to motivate and communicate big picture ideas effectively

  • High level of personal motivation and initiative

  • Ability to accomplish work within required timelines

The Billings Refinery is located in Billings, Montana. Its facilities include crude distilling, naphtha reforming, fluid catalytic cracking, alkylation, hydrodesulfurization and delayed coking units. The refinery processes a mixture of Canadian heavy, high-sulfur crude oil delivered by pipeline, and domestic crude oil delivered by truck. With the startup of a new vacuum distillation unit in 2017, the refinery has 100 percent heavy crude processing capability. The refinery produces a high percentage of transportation fuels and petroleum coke. Finished petroleum products are distributed by pipeline, rail car and truck. Pipelines transport most of the refined products to markets in Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, Utah, Colorado and Washington.
