CITY OF BILLINGS EQUIPMENT OPERATOR / MAINTENANCE WORKER in BILLINGS, Montana
The City of Billings is seeking an Equipment Operator / Maintenance Worker for Parks, Recreation, and Public Lands Parks. Responsible for performing a full range of maintenance duties at Mountview Cemetery and at other city buildings, equipment or grounds. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: - Check tires, oil lubricant, water levels, lights and fuel. - Wash, lubricate and adjust equipment. - Changes tire. - Maintain shop and storage areas. - Maintain cleanliness of work area and tools. - Pick up trash blown or carried into the Cemetery. - Empty trash cans. - Locate grave plots, mark them for excavation, use a backhoe to excavate the grave and manually square up the grave site. - Use sod cutter to cut sod. - Move and stack sod by hand. - Dig by hand two feet by two feet by three feet hole cremation sites. - Carry and use a 75 pound jackhammer. - Set up and take down all lowering device equipment and tent. - Meet the funeral procession at the front gate, stop traffic, and lead the procession to the gravesite. - Assist in carrying the casket to the gravesite and help move the concrete vault into position. - Hand shovel dirt and gravel. - Use a jumping jack tamper and hand tamper to pack soil. - Operate and maintain 2 and 3-stage snow blowers, operate a one-ton snow plow and shovel snow by hand. - Operate and maintain all commercial mowers, push and riding lawnmowers. - Operate and maintain string trimmers, blowers, sweepers, sprayers and other lawn care equipment. - Manually handle irrigation heads. - Thread metal pipe for irrigation system repairs. - Operate and maintain sprayers and apply hazardous chemicals to control weeds and fertilize cemetery grounds. - Operate a variety of equipment including tractor, front-end loader, various mowing equipment up to 16? area mowers, backhoe, trencher, blower, broom, snow plow, compaction equipment, dump truck, wood chipper, trash truck, bobcat, rock picker, and similar equipment. - Construct, maintain, and operate park structures and facilities. - Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical components. - Maintain and repair bathrooms. - Maintain playgrounds, play equipment, and fall protection. - Perform inspections to identify safety hazards. - Apply controlled herbicides in parks through handheld sprayers, tank pump sprayers, and broadcast sprayers. - Maintain, install, and repair complex irrigation systems, pump stations, irrigation pumps and irrigation wells. - Activate and deactivate water systems. - Order and purchase pipe, fittings, and repair parts. - Troubleshoot and repair irrigation electrical problems. - Apply fertilizers in parks with walk behind spreaders, tractor towed spreaders, and handheld liquid applications. - Exercise sports turf management on soccer, baseball, lacrosse, rugby, and football fields. - Perform landscape maintenance tasks of pruning trees and shrubs, hedge trimming, perennial flower rejuvenation, sod repair, mulching, tree and shrub planting, and edging. - Operate, maintain, and repair spray grounds. - Adjust water features. Required Qualifications and Skills: - High school diploma or equivalent. - Minimum of two (2) years' work experience with irrigation/landscape installation service, and maintenance. - Possession of a valid Montana driver's license or must be obtained within thirty (30) days of employment. - Experience with central control irrigation systems such as Rainbird's IQ program is preferred. - Experience operating tractor towed core aerators, soil slicers, top dressers, drags, and edger's is preferred. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Salary Range: $21.7757 - $25.2409 per hour. Salary reflects Step 1 and Step 4 of a 7-step pay scale.
