Bureau of Reclamation Geologist in Billings, Montana

Summary Reclamation is seeking a career professional looking for an opportunity to capitalize on their expertise as a Geologist. Duty Location: Billings, Montana For living conditions go to: https://www.usbr.gov/gp/employment/living_conditions.pdf Responsibilities Performs field geology activities for design data collection, site characterization, and geological studies. Assists in the preparation of specification paragraphs, drawings and drafts designated as milestone documents for major structures, recording the recommendations and conclusions made during the design and construction of the project or feature. Conducts analysis and prepares drawings primarily for portraying geological conditions and evaluations. Acts or assists the Team leader or Principal geologist in the monitoring of construction activities and performs occasional site inspections. Requirements Conditions of Employment You must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. National. You must be suitable for federal employment, determined by a background investigation. Qualifications To be eligible for consideration, you must first meet the Basic Education Requirement for this position, having a: A. Degree: geology, plus 20 additional semester hours in any combination of mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological science, structural, chemical, civil, mining or petroleum engineering, computer science, planetary geology, comparative planetology, geophysics, meteorology, hydrology, oceanography, physical geography, marine geology, and cartography -OR- B. .A combination of education and experience -- course work as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Acceptable experience may have been gained through geological field or laboratory work that provided a means of obtaining professional knowledge of the theory and application of the principles of geology and closely related sciences, e.g., geophysics, geochemistry, or hydrology. In order to be rated as qualified for this position, the HR Office must be able to determine that you meet the education and/or specialized experience requirement - this information must be clearly supported in the resume. To qualify at the GS-7, you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to at least the GS-5 level in federal service having demonstrated experience collecting geologic samples and utilizing geologic software to input data. You could otherwise qualify on the basis of Education having 1 year of graduate-level education or superior academic achievement in Geology. You may combine specialized experience and education to meet the minimum qualifications. To qualify at the GS-9, you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to at least the GS-7 level in federal service having demonstrated experience assisting in geologic site investigations; performing permeability testing and analysis of soil or concrete; evaluating faults, landslides, or other geologic hazards. You could otherwise qualify on the basis of education having 2 years of progressively higher level graduation education leading to a master's degree or master's degree or equivalent degree in Geology. You may combine specialized experience and education to meet the minimum qualifications. The superior academic achievement provision is to be used to determine eligibility for applicable GS-07 level positions of persons who have completed (or expect to complete within 9 months) all the requirements for bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a qualifying grade point average (GPA), class standing, or honors society.
