CTA Architects and Engineers HVAC Mechanical Engineer in Training in Billings, Montana

As a Mechanical Engineer -In-Training or Designer, you will be an integral part of the design team to produce construction documents for HVAC and Plumbing projects. This position will use Revit building information software as a drafting and design tool. This role will gain an understanding of HVAC systems and plumbing design on a variety of building construction projects. This position will work under the guidance of a senior engineer as you learn the mechanical consulting profession.
Qualifications* you will bring to the table:

  • A Bachelors degree or higher education in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in consulting HVAC engineering, however 5 years is preferred working on projects within the United States
  • Successfully passed Fundamentals of Engineering Exam preferred
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in State of Montana preferred or willing to get licensed
  • Basic knowledge of Autodesk MEP Revit, Auto CADD, Bluebeam, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Outlook
  • Basic knowledge of heating/cooling loads software such as Carrier HAP or Trane Trace.
  • Basic knowledge of HVAC systems, duct and piping sizing, chillers, heat pumps, VAV systems
  • Basic knowledge of plumbing systems, domestic and DWV sizing, water heaters, fixtures
  • Self-motivated and ability to effectively manage time

As a Team Member at Cushing Terrell, you will

  • Assist HVAC and plumbing team in project delivery
  • Produce basic piping, duct and equipment layouts and sizing under supervision of Professional Engineer
  • Assist in the production of construction documents utilizing Revit building information modeling software (BIM)
  • Electronically draft plans, schedules, details, controls and flow diagrams for HVAC and plumbing systems
  • Perform site investigations to as-build existing HVAC and plumbing systems for remodel projects
  • Perform heating and cooling load calculations
  • Perform basic calculations for HVAC system and/or plumbing system design
  • Perform basic equipment selection of fans, pumps, and plumbing fixtures
  • Assist with checking shop drawings during construction administration
  • Develop an understanding of HVAC and plumbing system design for different building types
The majority of the time, a person in this role will be sitting in an office with limited physical requirements. This may require individuals to bend, stretch, twist, and reach.
Your pay
The salary for this position is based on the location/s posted. If you are a candidate living outside of (this region/these regions), we still encourage you to apply as salary ranges may differ across states/cities/job markets.
  • Expected Range: $55,000 to $67,000
  • The position is also eligible for an annual performance bonus
*The actual salary offered for the role will be determined based on various factors including but not limited to; years of experience, certifications, location, level of job-related knowledge, and other job-related factors (as permitted by law).
