CITY OF BILLINGS LEAD FACILITIES MAINTENANCE MECHANIC in BILLINGS, Montana

The Lead Facilities Maintenance Mechanic performs a combination of lead worker duties of assigning and evaluating work, routine equipment maintenance and intermediate troubleshooting of malfunctions relating to plumbing, HVAC, electrical and mechanical equipment. Incumbents combine a daily and weekly preventive maintenance routine with responses to immediate repair requests. Duties may include supervision of Facilities Maintenance staff, work on the immediate grounds and parking areas associated with an assigned facility. Duties may include being observant of potential safety and security problems. Incumbents regularly work independently on the more complex repairs or equipment replacement activities. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: - Leads, plans, and reviews the work of staff. - Trains assigned employees. - Verifies work of assigned employees. - Supervises the use of and operates a variety of building maintenance tools and equipment. - Estimates time, materials, and equipment required for jobs assigned - Replaces motors, pumps, belts, filters and other HVAC equipment - Operates and troubleshoots computer/electronic building control systems equipment - Determines when a problem requires the use of outside vendors or other skilled trades - Repairs or replaces water heaters, sinks, toilets or other plumbing fixtures - Replaces lubricants in pumps and motors and may add refrigerant fluid to compressors - Replaces lights, light fixtures, heating elements, switches and other basic electrical items - Installs, adjusts, repairs, and inspects heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment - Maintains preventative maintenance records and logs. - Maintains and repairs City facilities, equipment, and buildings - Operates, maintains, and repairs a variety of mechanical tools and equipment - May order department supplies - Receives maintenance supplies and stores them in designated areas - Responds to tenant and public inquiries - Observes unattended packages left in the facility and calls for assistance if there is a possibility of a hazard. - Assists in security measures and participates in Airport emergency plans. - Performs journey level carpentry work - Reads and interprets schematics, diagrams, and blueprints. Required Qualifications and Skills: - A high school diploma or equivalent. - Minimum of one (1) year of specialized training in the building trades - Minimum of one (1) year experience supervising or leading others - Boiler's operator license or must be obtained within one (1) year from the date of employment or promotion - Must have strong communication skills and the ability to interact with vendors, staff, and the public - Must have a Montana driver's license or must be obtained within thirty (30) days of employment - Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and a Federal fingerprint based criminal history check - The job requires the ability to operate personal computers and software including, but not limited to, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet Explorer, etc. Preferred Qualifications and Skills: - Minimum of four (4) years of related experience - Minimum of one (1) year experience or formal training on personal computers with Microsoft applications and operating an automated Building Management System Salary Range: $27.9258 - $37.4204 per hour. Salary reflects Step 1 and Step 7 of a 7-step pay scale. Salary at hiring will be dependent upon the applicant's education, experience, and training. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Equal opportunity employer.
