YELLOWSTONE COUNTY LEGAL ASSISTANT in BILLINGS, Montana
Full-time position, which provides paralegal, secretarial, and related administrative support operations for the County Attorney\'s Office; assists with preparing and filing of court documents; does related work as required. The work is performed under the general direction of assigned attorneys, the Office Administrator, and the Legal Office Supervisor.
Examples of Duties: - Performs a variety of complex paralegal, secretarial and administrative support processes and procedures and analyzes a variety of subject matter required to determine appropriate actions to be implemented within the office; - Studies case files and prepares proposed court orders for use by judges in criminal, domestic and civil actions; - Originates provisions where guidelines are not available; - Submits drafts for supervisor\'s approval; - Attends court hearings to present documents for judges\' signature or to act as assistant to the attorney; - Retrieves criminal history information, obtains prior conviction records of accused felons for inclusions in trial documents; immediately prior to court date, reviews case files for complete information and consistency of court dates; - Researches and investigates criminal records of potential defendants; - Recommends level of legal action to be taken; - Prepares exoneration orders for persons arrested but not charged or diverted.
Minimum Qualifications: - Associate\'s Degree in Paralegal Studies, Legal Assistant, Criminal Justice or closely related field; and - One (1) years\' paralegal, legal assistant, or legal secretary experience; or - Any equivalent combination of experience and training totaling three (3) years.
May be required to become CJIN/NCIC certified within six (6) month probationary period, if applicable; Notary Public within six (6) month probationary period, if applicable.
