Blue Creek School Meal Coordinator in Billings, Montana

Applicants must be able to perform duties that include, but are not limited to, general kitchen skills such as food preparation, storage, serving, and cleaning. It also includes meal planning, record keeping, ordering, assisting students, families, and staff with a variety of needs. Applicants must also be able to perform basic lifting and physical activities related to the position. This person must be able to get along well with both children and adults, and be neat and clean in appearance. Previous food service experience is preferred. Any combination equivalent to high school diploma or equivalent or sufficient experience, training and/or education to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed above. First Aid and CPR Certified, Valid driver's license, Food Safety certification desired. Job Description: Meal CoordinatorHours: approx. 30-40 per week Wages $17.00-$20.00 per hour D.O.E.Per school calendar, minimal summer workDESCRIPTION OF BASIC FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES (includes but is not limited to):Plan, organize, and direct the district’s food service program in compliance with federal; and state regulations and district policiesOrder food, supplies, and equipmentObserve and maintain procedures for proper delivery and storage of food and suppliesRequest commodity foods as necessaryCoordinate and review food service operationsMaintain compliance with laws, regulations, and standards and observe safety and sanitation proceduresPrepare menusServe meals to students, staff, and visitorsWash, sanitize, and store dishes, utensils; scrub counters and tables; mop floors and dispose of wastes safely and appropriatelyMaintain and operate workstations in a safe and sanitary mannerReceive and provide information to students and parents as necessaryAttend training programs, workshops and meetings in line with service operationsObserve standards for quantity food purchasesMonitor equipment for maintenance and repairMaintain a variety of logs, records, and/or files for food services including forms and procedures for record keepingSubmit reports to the Office of Public InstructionOperate the meal accounting program.Provide notices to families for meal balances, free and reduced meal qualification, and general accounting.Coordinate operations of lunch program with office staffReport to school board trustees as neededPerform related additional duties as requiredKNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES (includes but is not limited to): KNOWLEDGE OF: Methods of preparing, cooking and serving food in large quantities. HACCP---Hazard Analysis of Critical Control Points District Wellness PolicyPrinciples and practices of food serviceMeal production, planning, and schedulingPlan well-balanced, nutritional and appetizing menus within fiscal limitsQuantity food preparation and knowledge of food values and nutritionUse and care of kitchen equipment and utensilsProcedures used in ordering, receiving, storing, and inventory of food and suppliesHealth and safety regulations pertaining to food establishments including sanitation and maintenance regulationsRecord keeping techniques ABILITY TO: Plan, organize, supervise and participate in the preparation, cooking, and serving of a variety of foods in quantity.Prepare and serve food in large quantities. Operate commercial kitchen equipment and appliances. Train and supervise assigned staff. Prepare reports and maintain records. Lift, carry, push and pull heavy containers of food and materials up to 50 lbs. Requisition appropriate amounts of food and materials. Estimate food quantities needed and order correct amounts for economical food service. Follow health and sanitation requirements. Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others with both children and adultsBe neat and clean in appearanceDemonstrate strong oral and written communications skillsMeet schedules and timelines WORKING CONDITIONS: ENVIRONMENT: Food service environment. Exposure to hot foods, equipment and metal objects. Incumbents in this class may be required to respond to emergency calls in the case of catastrophic events. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Standing or walking for extended periods of time. Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate kitchen equipment. Lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling food trays, carts, materials and supplies. Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally. Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching. HAZARDS: Exposure to sharp knives and slicers. Hot surfaces and liquids. Poisonous cleaning chemicals.
