The Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition at the University of Utah School of Medicine is seeking a Pediatric Gastroenterologist to provide care in inpatient and outpatient settings, working primarily at St. Vincent in Billings, Montana.

Our 286-bed level II trauma center has provided care in Montana and the surrounding area since 1898, and our 30-clinic network ensures community needs are met. We offer comprehensive, specialty care, including a “hospital within a hospital” specifically for children, and are proud to extend SCL Health’s missions by treating the poor, the vulnerable, our community and each other.

The Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology at the University of Utah currently has 15 physicians, 4 advanced practice nurse clinicians, 6 registered nurses, and 3 pediatric GI fellows.

The Division has all pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology, and nutrition clinical services represented with the exception of small bowel transplantation. The liver transplant program has performed >300 liver transplants since its inception. The program is one of the only centers in the country with a pediatric ERCP/advanced endoscopy program. Additional programs include fully equipped and staffed endoscopy suites, a gastrointestinal Motility Disorders Center, a multidisciplinary IBD program with close collaboration with an IBD surgery program, close collaboration with the Cystic Fibrosis Center (https://intermountainhealthcare.org/primary-childrens/programs-specialties/pulmonology/cystic-fibrosis) , Food Allergy and Eosinophilic Disorders Clinic, the Esophageal and Airway Treatment Center (https://intermountainhealthcare.org/primary-childrens/programs-specialties/general-surgery/esophageal-airway) , a Feeding and Swallowing Center (https://intermountainhealthcare.org/primary-childrens/programs-specialties/gastroenterology/feeding-swallowing/) , a comprehensive nutrition center, an Aerodigestive Clinic, a Home Enteral Feeding Transitions program (post-NICU), and a multidisciplinary Colorectal Center (https://intermountainhealthcare.org/primary-childrens/programs-specialties/general-surgery/colorectal-program) .

Your day.

As a Pediatric Gastroenterologist you’ll work with a strong team to provide top-notch care and patient experience.

  • You would practice at St. Vincent in Billings, MT

  • Your hours will be Mon-Thurs 8am-5pm and Fri 8am-2pm

  • You would provide outreach services to rural areas surrounding Billings

  • You will be joining an established group with a great team dynamic.

  • Throughout the day you'll have the opportunity to collaborate with strong nursing support and other specialties

In this line of work every day is different, that’s why you’ll need to know how to:

  • Provide and manage direct patient care, including physical examinations, evaluations, assessments, diagnosis and treatment.

  • Prescribe pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens.

  • Serve as a collaborative physician for an advanced practice registered nurse.

  • Direct and coordinate the patient care activities of nursing and support staff as required.

Your experience.

We hire people, not words on paper. But we also expect excellence, which is why we require:

  • MD or DO degree from fully accredited medical or osteopathic school of medicine.

  • Residency trained in Pediatrics.

  • Fellowship trained in Pediatric Gastroenterology.

  • American board certification/eligibility in required specialty.

  • Able to obtain a Montana medical license.

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.

It’s also a big plus if you have:

  • Ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically within a multi-functional team.

  • A sense of team and patient care focused.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to successfully function in a fast paced, service oriented environment.

  • Experience in understanding and usage of computers, including Microsoft products. The ability to learn new applications relevant to your position.
