CITY OF BILLINGS POLICE SUPPORT SPECIALIST in BILLINGS, Montana

Police Support Specialists perform a wide variety of specialized clerical duties in support of the Police Department including initiating, processing, and maintaining documents, correspondence and statistics; and providing information and assistance to officers and the public. Duties: - Enters, deletes, and updates information in accordance with policies and procedures. - Keeps warrant information current. - Prepares and maintains program and operational records and files. - Sorts and prepares records for retention. - Reviews and makes copies as requested. - Types a variety of documents. - Reviews other agencies' information for items of local law enforcement interest. - Processes officer requests for information. - Prepares routine reports and reviews for completeness. - Processes requests and makes inquiries into the NCIC and CJIN. - Issues routine permits and licenses. - Receives and issues receipts for funds for permits. - Answers phones. - Assists the public at the counter. - Provides information and answers inquiries. - Assists citizens in filing and obtaining police department documents. - Assists crime victims in obtaining benefits. - May work in high stress and emotionally charged situations. Qualifications and Skills: - High school diploma or equivalent. - Two years related work experience. - Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and a Federal and State criminal history background check. - Must be able to obtain National Crime Information Center certification within six months of hire. - Position requires reading communication, math, and problem-solving skills. - Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Weekly Work Schedule: - Four (4) 10 hour shifts which vary by operational needs and annual bid. Shifts are 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., OR 8:30 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. OR 2:00 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. (additional shift differential is paid for noon and night shifts) - Days off to be determined. Salary: $18.9440 per hour. Salary reflects Step 1 of a 7-step pay scale. Equal Opportunity Employer.
