Are you passionate about making a difference in your community? Terracon is growing and hiring an Environmental Project Manager for our Montana locations! Our Montana office has a diverse client base in both public and private sectors working with commercial, industrial, government, property development, and institutional market entities. Generally, responsibilities of the Project Manager will consist of approximately 50% field work and 50% office-related duties. Periodic overnight travel may be required with this position.

This location for this position can be based out of the following Terracon offices: Billings, MT or Great Falls, MT

As a Environmental Project Manager within the Terracon Billings Office, you will work the office and field designing, conducting, and implementing environmental site assessments (Phase I and II), advanced site characterization investigations, analyzing and reducing associated soil, groundwater, and vapor data, and preparing Site Investigation Reports and reviewing and analyzing data for Remedial Investigation/Feasibility Studies, Corrective Action Plans (CAPs), and Remedial Action Plans /RAPs). Project work may also include regulated materials surveys and abatements (asbestos, lead) and/or Monitoring and Remediation Reports. This position will report directly to the Environmental Department Manager and will work closely with the Department’s staff in a mentorship and leadership capacity.

Additionally, you will manage all aspects of environmental projects to ensure they are safely completed on time and within scope and budget, while delivering the best client experience. Responsible for completing projects as per contracted scope; and monitoring progress and performance against the project plan. Troubleshoot and recommend or resolve operational problems and minimize delays. May be responsible for resource management, project scheduling, budgets and forecasts, and working with external vendors, subcontractors or contractors. Conducts meetings and prepares reports to communicate the status of the project to project team and client. Sets priorities, assigns tasks, and coordinates project staff to meet project targets and milestones. Will have responsibilities to communicate with clients and deliver work products to satisfaction of client. Coordinates efforts with Terracon Authorized Project Reviewer (APR) to make sure that APR has opportunity to engage throughout the project, particularly at critical junctures. Is involved with approving invoices, preparing change orders, and collections.

Essential Role and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.

  • Performs site visits, field observations and field data collection or assignments.

  • Conducts groundwater, soil, and other sampling on occasion.

  • Directs field staff to sample, test and collect data and/or document site activities.

  • Outlines required investigative program(s) by selecting the proper alternative techniques to conduct site studies in field of expertise.

  • Manages all aspects of a small to medium sized projects.

  • Works with APR, client and/or Terracon National Account Manager (NAM) to define project scope, schedule, and budget.

  • Designs, communicates, and implements project plans for completing the project.

  • Leads safety efforts including preparation and compliance with approved safety plan. Follows safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects. Participates in pre-task planning. Reports any safety issues or concerns to management.

  • Takes action to resolve operational problems and minimize delays.

  • Identifies, develops, and gathers the resources to complete the project. This may include preparing calculations, designs, reports and work specifications; developing project schedules, budgets and forecasts; and selecting materials, equipment, project staff, and external contractors.

  • Partners with other departments or offices to secure specialized resources for projects.

  • Conducts meetings and prepares reports to communicate the status of the project.

  • Sets priorities, assigns tasks, and coordinates project staff to meet project targets and milestones.

  • Coordinates with APR to ensure appropriate oversight is in place and sufficient time allowed for reviews of all critical junctures.

  • Coordinates with accounting for financial management of business intelligence, invoicing, and collections

  • Develops understanding and awareness of project-related risks. Becomes familiar with what could go wrong on a project and how to protect the Company. Becomes familiar with company risk policies.

  • Lead safety efforts for team and ensures team follows safety rules and guidelines. Responsible for creating and modeling a safe work environment; demonstrates safety practices. Promotes pre-task planning for all projects.

  • Promotes continuous quality monitoring and improvement on projects. Monitors quality standards and practices. Engage APRs on projects at their onset.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in geology, environmental engineering, environmental science, or related discipline

  • Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated experience in Phase I ESAs, experience in site characterization, environmental field investigations. Experience with environmental industrial hygiene and/or remediation projects beneficial

  • High level of verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong organizational skills; ability to manage multiple projects/proposals concurrently is necessary

  • Completed OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training. Certified Asbestos Building Inspector (CABI) beneficial.

  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
