Intermountain Health Registered Nurse Command Center in Billings, Montana

Job Description:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Assesses, directs and coordinates transfers and admissions from physician offices, hospitals, and other healthcare settings to the most appropriate accepting service, facility, and level of care.

  2. Facilitates patient placement by assessing patient diagnosis, acuity and location, applicable risk factors and unit criteria/bed availability.

  3. Collaborates with the facility departments, medical staff, nursing staff, and leadership to promote appropriate, timely patient placement so that patient care is not delayed. Collaborates with facility staff to identify and communicate bed capacity issues.

  4. Leverages capacity dashboards and other real-time indicators to predict future patient placement pressure points and participates in the execution of surge-capacity protocols; and initiating interventions, within scope of practice, to accelerate patient flow or other mitigating barriers to optimal throughput.

  5. Assists with all aspects of patient logistics to include pre-registration, transportation, and bed planning; collects unit specific data, and information needed to access and place patients appropriately.

  6. Adheres to regulatory compliance with all Command Center operations, including Stark, EMTALA, and any other pertinent to Call Center activities. Maintains current knowledge of regulatory requirements impacting operations of the Command Center.

  7. Provides timely and accurate transfer and admission documentation.

  8. Works collaboratively with our providers and key stakeholders in the development and maintenance of transfer and admission pathways for our patients.

  9. Delegates as needed to the Transfer Center Tech and EMS Liaison.

  10. Promotes mission, vision, and values of Intermountain Health, and abides by service behavior standards.

  11. Performs other duties as assigned.

  12. May be required to be placed on-call during a regularly scheduled shift.

Minimum Qualifications

ASN from an accredited program; BSN within 4 years

  • Current Montana RN license

  • Current BLS certification endorsed by the American Heart Association

Preferred Qualifications

- Minimum 5 years RN experience in either ED, ICU and/or 5 years acute care inpatient nursing.

  • Critical Care or ED background. Hospital Supervisor, Charge Nurse or previous transfer center experience. Experience with hospital throughput or capacity management. Experience with Command Center operations, knowledge of Epic.

  • Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively with all interdisciplinary team members, referrals agencies, patients, families, and other services.

  • Demonstrates excellent customer service and professional administrative skills.

  • Regular attendance to perform work on site during regularly scheduled business hours or scheduled shifts is required

  • Ability to work nights and/or weekends is required for identified positions

Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.- and -Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.- and -Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.- and -Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.- and -Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc).- and -May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.

$31.28 - $55.57
