JOB SUMMARY : The Staff Software Engineer will serve within a technical team on a seven-year Federal project supporting the US Forest Service. This project will provide operations and maintenance for a critical business application suite which is used to manage wildland fire fighting situational awareness and resource decisions ranging from the national level down to incident coordination. This person must have demonstrated expertise in Agile software development and DevSecOps processes for designing, testing, and delivering cloud native applications using containers on Azure and / or AWS.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS : Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Information Systems Engineering, Business, or other related scientific or technical discipline from an accredited college or university. Minimum of 4 years’ experience in software development and engineering projects, with at least 2 years’ experience of developing, testing, and deploying cloud native applications in Azure and / or AWS.
SECURITY CLEARANCE: U.S. citizen; must be able to pass a National Agency Check for access to Federal IT systems. Active Secret or Top Secret clearance is a plus.
JOB TYPE: Full Time; anticipated start date is August 1, 2023 contingent upon contract award. Project period of performance is up to seven years.
LOCATION: Candidate must be located within commuting distance of Billings, Montana.
SALARY RANGE: $85K to $105K , the estimated range represents the typical salary for the position commensurate with experience, knowledge and demonstrated success in the field and other factors.
The pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develops and supports enterprise-level microservice applications and modernizes legacy applications to become cloud enabled using a DevSecOps CI/CD pipeline.
Examines existing systems for flaws and creates solutions that improve service uptime and time-to-resolve through monitoring and automated remediation.
Applies computer science, engineering, and mathematical analysis to the software development process.
Performs software systems testing with a focus on procedures and programming.
Communicates with customers and clients to establish maintenance procedures for software systems.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Proficiency in C#, .NET, and .NET Core application development.
Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing Azure and / or AWS containerized cloud solutions.
Requisite understanding of API development using SOA and REST.
Proven ability to design and build tools and frameworks to automate the development, testing, deployment, and management of services and products.
Ability to design, build, and execute automation frameworks for deployment of Azure and AWS Cloud Environments.
Organized with high attention to detail.
Excellent analytical, logical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills as part of a hybrid in-person / distributed US-based team.
Cloud Security Certifications will set you apart (e.g., Microsoft Certified Azure Security Engineer Associate, AWS Certified Security, CompTIA Cloud+, GIAC Cloud Security Automation).
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
