STERILE PROCESSING SERVICES (BILLINGS CLINIC 2950 10TH AVE N BUILDING)

Shift: Day, Evening, Weekends
Employment Status: Full-Time (.75 or greater)
Hours per Pay Period: 1.00 = 80 hours (Non-Exempt)
Starting Wage DOE: $17.00- $21.25
May be eligible for $2,500 sign on incentive
This position is responsible for insuring that all surgical supplies, instruments, and equipment are properly maintained, decontaminated, assembled, inspected, packaged, sterilized, stored, distributed, and tracked in a quality/timely manner throughout the hospital. Serves as a resource to sterile processing customers, both on Main Campus and in the Region.
Essential Job Functions
• Supports and models behaviors consistent with Billings Clinic’s mission, vision, values, code of business conduct and service expectations. Meets all mandatory organizational and departmental requirements. Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental and outside agency standards as it relates to the environment, employee, patient safety or job performance.
• Decontamination: Identifies and uses appropriate methods as identified by manufacturer’s guidelines to sort, disassemble, decontaminate, clean, and disinfect instruments and clinical equipment. Shows proficiency in operating and troubleshooting cleaning equipment.Appropriately handles garbage, soiled linen, and biohazard materials. Maintains safety standards and ongoing departmental competencies and educational requirements.
• Instrument assembly and packaging: Identifies and inspects instruments for cleanliness and functionality.Correctly assembles instruments and packages them appropriately to set standards as it relates to validated sterilization method. Must be familiar with the various packaging materials available for sterilization and must be able to select the appropriate packaging for the item and sterilization process. Must be able to correctly identify a multitude of different instruments and how to properly process them
• Sterilization/High Level Disinfection (HLD): Selects appropriate sterilization or high-level disinfection methods.Identifies and follows correct principles of sterilization/HLD. Properly documents and verifies sterilization loads and biological tests to determine the efficacy of the sterilization process. Must be able to understand the advantages and limitations of each sterilization method andbe able to demonstrate competency in using all equipment used for sterilization and HLD. Correctly identifies when and how to safely use different sterilization/HLD methods available.
• Understands and utilizes established principles and procedures that are required to insure that the sterilization process will be effective, as defined by regulatory agencies. Maintains proficiency in all assigned work areas within Sterile Processing, and maintains cleanliness and order to ensure a safe and effective working environment.
• Identifies new or unfamiliar equipment to determine proper reprocessing procedures, and demonstrates ability to use available resources.
Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization
Minimum Qualifications
Education
• High school graduate or equivalent
Certifications and Licensures
• Certification in sterile processing, CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician) through IAHCSMM (International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management) or equivalent is required within eighteen (18) months of hire.
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience relating to the above tasks, knowledge, skills and abilities will be considered
