Surgical Nurse Navigator

SURGICAL NURSE NAVIGATORS - 6935 (Billings Clinic Main Campus)

Shift: Day

Employment Status: Full-Time (.75 or greater)

Hours per Pay Period: 1.00 = 80 hours (Non-Exempt)

Starting Wage DOE: $35.34 - $44.18

Hybrid position - remote and on-site requirements.

Surgical Navigator is responsible for coordinating aspects of the clinic testing process and follow-up for procedural patients within Billings Clinic. Responsibilities include triaging the patient and assessing health status and associated risks, providing related patient education and pre and post-procedural instructions, coordination of required pre-procedure ancillary tests, anesthesia/sedation risk assessments, and evaluating/anticipating discharge planning needs, and post-operative follow-up. Makes appropriate referrals to ancillary services. Works cohesively with other surgical navigators, surgeons, and office staff.

Essential Job Functions

•Conducts comprehensive nursing assessments utilizing critical thinking and advanced nursing practices to triage and assess patient’s health status and identify potential for procedural complications and/or implications.

•Reconciles medication history, monitors vitals, reviews and interprets a variety of diagnostic tests (i.e., EKG, O2 oximetry, radiology exams, etc.) and laboratory results accurately to identify any potential contraindications or implications.

•Coordinates pre- and post-procedural communications with the patient and family and provides education regarding pre- and post-operative patient care instructions. Obtains needed outside records and share with other appropriate members of the navigation team if the office staff have not completed.

•Facilitates and ensures that comprehensive, multi-disciplinary collaboration of care occurs with the patient, family, physicians, and other health care providers. Coordinates and communicates contraindications to attending physician and/or anesthesiologist as appropriate. Follows anesthesia and department specific protocols.

•Assesses patient’s discharge planning needs and makes referrals to Billings Clinic Care Management or other internal or external department/agencies as appropriate.

•Initiates, responds to and triages post-procedure follow-up calls from patients. Evaluates, prioritizes, and directs patient’s care and makes appropriate referrals for follow-up care/evaluation, as necessary.

•Identifies needs and sets goals for own growth and development; meets all mandatory organizational and departmental requirements.

•c) Participates in monitoring of patient care activities through routine audits and reviews.

•d) Ensures and enhances facility, safety, and regulatory outcomes through compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, accrediting agencies, and Billings Clinic policies.

•Works in collaboration with Leadership team to ensure hospital and clinic departmental goals and objectives are met.

•b) Develops patient referral services by relationship-building strategies with physicians not related to the department.

•Collaborate with local individuals, agencies, and organizations to facilitate the increased availability of community-based care services.

•Performs all other duties as assigned or as needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.

Department or Level Specific Duties and Responsibilities

•Surgicial Nurse Navigators primarily supporting advanced orthopedic and spine certification:

Required to complete 8 hours of annual training per year for advanced orthopedic and spine certification requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

•Minimum 2 Year / Associate Degree ASN

•Preferred 4 Year / Bachelors Degree

•BSN within 4 years of hire

Experience

•2 years of clinical practice experience

•5 years of service line experience preferred .

Certifications and Licensure

· RN At hire

• Additional Qualifications for Heart Failure

Montana and Wyoming RN licensure is required

BLS certification required
