SURGICAL SERVICES (BILLINGS CLINIC HOSPITAL)

Employment Status: Full-Time (.75 or greater)

Hours per Pay Period: 1.00 = 80 hours (Non-Exempt)

Starting Wage DOE: $23.92 - 29.90

The (OR) Surgical Services/Anesthesia Unit Clerk is responsible for assisting and supporting Surgical Services Leadership and Anesthesia team by organizing and coordinating the activities, resources, and workflow for the Operating Room. Provides support to monitor and continually assesses operating room workflow for efficient daily management of OR case schedule. Coordinates intradepartmental and interdepartmental communication for surgical patients and multidisciplinary OR team.

Essential Job Functions

• Responsible for assisting Leadership providing direction associated with the day-to-day operations. Assists as needed with work schedules and with daily assignments to ensure all Anesthesia requests are covered

• Acts as a resource to staff responding to procedural questions and assistance with problem resolution. Acts as a liaison with other departmental staff concerning equipment and/or supply issues. Provides advice concerning logistical support and product flow.

• Assists the Clinical Coordinator with the investigation and resolution of physician-related concerns or problems that may arise.

• Assists with assessing cleanliness, availability and proper working condition of equipment and supplies.

• Participates in and assists the Clinical Coordinator with developing departmental goals and objectives for daily OR operations

• Assists in monitoring surgery schedules to ensure operating rooms are equipped with appropriate supplies, equipment, and accessories.

• Assists the Clinical Coordinator in ensuring that the OR meets all regulatory and accreditation standards particularly as it relates to OR environment

• Utilizes performance improvement principles to assess and improve quality care.

• Identifies needs and sets goals for own personal growth and development. Meets all system and departmental educational requirements.

• Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental, and outside agency environmental, employee or patient safety standards relevant to job performance. Ensures staff compliance and adherence to the same.

• Performs all other duties as assigned or needed to meet the department/organization's needs.

• Performs clerical duties to maintain unit flow which may include paperwork coordination, supply ordering, electronic case scheduling, and daily quality checks.

• Utilizes electronic applications to support daily staff and patient workflow

• Effectively utilize phone systems. Answers telephone calls, responds to routine inquiries and relays other calls and messages promptly. Notifies appropriate personnel of requests.

• Interacts promptly with a polite, courteous, and helpful disposition to assist patients, family members, and the interdisciplinary care team.

• Utilizes performance improvement principles to assess and improve the quality of patient services

• Adheres to Billings Clinic safety standards, policies, and practices. Anticipates and identifies problems and safety issues and initiates appropriate action.

• Assists with limited patient care duties

• Performs all other duties as assigned or needed to meet the department/organization's needs.

• Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental, and outside agency safety standards relevant to job performance

Minimum Qualifications

Education

•High school diploma or equivalent

Experience

• 2 years OR experience or equivalent

• Demonstration of progressively more responsible work or prior experience in a leadership role

Or an equivalent combination of education and experience relating to the above tasks, knowledge, skills and abilities will be considered. Employees that require a licensed or certification must be properly licensed/certified and the licensure/certification must be in good standing.
