The Senior Vice President of Product for Cengage Academic is a strategic leader who, through strategies, roadmaps, and operational excellence, drives growth in the usage of Cengage Academic Products across multiple markets. This role leads Product Management, Technical Product Management, Product Marketing, UX Design, Digital Production, Content & Learning, Author Relations, Product Strategy & Ops, and Technical Writing, across US Higher Education and Secondary Education, as well as many products and user experiences in International Higher Education markets.

The SVP, Product is accountable for the creation and execution of a multi-year product release roadmap, in close coordination across functions, optimizing benefit to users vs. investment, to support growth in the use of Cengage Academic digital and print solutions. The Cengage Academic product roadmap includes all learning products as well as the experiences of faculty, institution, and student users to discover, select, purchase, and/or access our digital products globally.

The successful candidate will be a team-oriented leader with a passion for improving the lives of instructors and learners and a deep affinity for leading high-caliber teams to create customer value. This individual has the unique ability to commit to results through personal and team accountability, while building strong organizational networks into technology, go-to-market, and other functions.

The SVP, Product is a member of the Cengage Academic Leadership team and works with the leaders of our GTM teams, Technology, Service Experience, Research, Strategy, Finance, and Talent Strategy/Human Resources.

The incumbent will have a deep understanding of the customers and markets we serve, educational publishing, and educational technology. They will have strong business insight and thrive in an organization that is mission, growth and business driven.

What you'll do here:

  • Create and implement the product strategy for Cengage Academic; define and deliver the multi-year product roadmap

  • Lead and develop a team of dedicated and hard-working employees focused on improving the lives of instructors and learners

  • Drive Cengage Academic’s product vision, direction, and business plans; responsible for all aspects of product development and delivery; define and implement the best practices and processes of product management

  • Directly accountable for the full development cycle of learning products through excellence in portfolio product management

  • Serve as a member of the Cengage Academic Leadership Team, setting business unit- and market-level financial plans as well as broad approaches for the Cengage Academic employee experience; develop Product budgets and forecasts that align with Cengage Academic financial aspirations

  • Actively collaborate with CA market (US Higher Ed, Secondary, International Higher Ed) and functional (Technology, Service Experience, Research, Strategy, Finance, and Operations) leaders

  • Develop and participate in implementing a CA wide go-to-market plan

  • Implement Talent Management and Performance Management strategies aligned with Cengage Academic programs

  • Serve as visible leader of Cengage Academic and the Product team, appearing across a variety of internal (town halls, etc.) and external (articles, interviews, etc.) settings

Skills you will need here:

  • Successful history driving Product Management for global education markets, ideally in education publishing and education technology, including experience driving product vision, design, and go-to-market strategies

  • 10 years leading large successful teams

  • Experience with a broad range of customer types

  • Experience collaborating closely with cross-functional leaders to align the goals of various business units to the overall organizational goal

  • Outstanding communications skills with great reputation for communicating highly complex ideas and concepts with simplicity

  • Leader of leaders with success in attracting talent, building great teams and designing high impact organizational models.

  • Demonstrate a passion for positively impacting the lives of our customers

  • Ability to create successful teams by coaching, providing regular feedback, providing career path and development/growth opportunities, and creating a collaborative and open environment

  • Thoughtful listener

Education requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent certification in Business Administration or related

  • Formal Product Management training a strong plus
