North Central Independent Living Services, Inc. Independent Living Specialist in Black Eagle, Montana

Job Overview:Performs professional work in urban and rural outreach services. Develops and implements Independent Living Plans that promote the development, improvement and expansion of community based services for persons with severe disablities. Ensures the smooth, effective and productive operation of regional outreach activities for North Cental Independent Living Services (NCILS). Ensures activities comply with existing NCILS policy, state and federal regulations.Duties:1. Provide core Center for Independent Living services to include all Independent Living services based on consumer need and maintain documentation and data as required within the standards, indicators, and assurances as provided for in section 725 and NCILS procedures.2. Provides support services, information and referrals to individuals that are severely disabled and their significant others.3. Assist persons in determining their independent living needs and in self-advocacy.4. Ensures provision of supportive follow up to caseload.5. Assist in development of system advocacy strategies in cooperation with individuals that are disabled, peer helpers, local action groups and concerned others.6. Facilitates self-advocacy efforts by consumers that are disabled in exercising their civil rights and responsibilities.7. Promotes community awareness and involvement with the population of people that are disabled.8. Maintains consumer records.9. Prepares case records, reports and necessary regional contract reports to be submitted to the Executive Director, Board and State.10. Ensures proper documentation, accuracy, and completeness of records and reports on Direct Assistance PaymentsRequirements:One must have a demonstrated ability to understand the needs of and that ability to work effectively with consumers that are disabled in an independent community setting; must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Staff, Peer Helpers, other agencies and the public. Must be able to perform complex planning and operating tasks under limited supervision; must be willing to plan and work cooperatively with superiors, Independent Lliving staff and peers.Travel: Willing and able to travel in multi-county area on a daily basis, year round, to provide services. Must have available, dependable transportation.Education: BA or BS degree in Social Science, Counseling, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech and Language or related field and/or equivalent combination of education andexperience.Experience: One year paid experience working with the physically disabled, or hearing or visually impaired. Previous involvement in the IL Movement preferred.
