Brief Position Overview

General Statement

The Jake Jabs College of Business & Entrepreneurship offers a B.S. in Business with options in Accounting, Finance, Management, and Marketing and two master’s degrees in Professional Accountancy and Innovation & Management. The College has about 27 tenure-track faculty that are augmented by an experienced group of professionally qualified faculty. Duties and Responsibilities

  • Advise, plan and direct student academic processes. Includes working with certifying officer and graduate program directors on graduation audits, pre-requisite appeals and course substitutions; serving as DegreeWorks exceptions manager; manually registering students for restricted-entry courses; signing and tracking change in major forms; updating advisors and curriculum in Banner; organizing and maintaining electronic student files.

  • Serve as primary point of contact in the College for academic and student services. Answer student inquiries via phone calls and college e-mail.

  • Manage and implement college, Registrar’s Office, Graduate School and University policies and procedures. Work in conjunction with Jabs advising team to assist students in understanding and following Jabs and MSU academic policies, rules, and requirements.

  • Accurately and independently collect, compile, analyze and report reliable student enrollment data to College administration to inform data driven decision-making around policy design, strategic planning in long and short term goals with regards to curriculum offerings, student enrollment and retention.

  • Facilitate Jabs scholarship program including working with MSU Foundation, Jabs Administration and Scholarship committee to select recipients and process awards in CatScholarship.

  • Serve as a liaison between the College and MSU Registrar’s Office, Admissions Office, Advising Commons, Disabled Student Services, Office of International Programs, MSU Graduate School, etc.

  • Advocate for student success by working closely and responsively with faculty, advisors, and staff to coordinate efforts to support Jabs students (undergraduate & graduate), including proper instruction regarding registration and graduation procedures, referring to appropriate resources, building culture, developing new processes and procedures as needed.

  • Provide administrative support to Jabs graduate program directors, including assisting with admission applications, submission of forms (programs of study, petitions to reserve, applications for graduation, etc.), GTAs, accounting tutoring center (etc.).

  • Serve as primary point of contact and departmental support for College clubs.

  • Work with Jabs staff and University Communications to coordinate and maintain academic related webpages, college brochures, and student resources, and send some student communications.

  • Serve as a collaborative Jabs team member including supporting other Jabs programs and events as needed, meeting with prospective students, reception desk coverage, and other duties as assigned.

    Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  • Two years of post-secondary education plus two years of full-time administrative experience (or equivalent experience, education, and knowledge), which includes: public relations/customer service or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.

  • Excellent organizational, communication and time management skills.

  • Demonstrated competence using personal computers and software; specifically Microsoft Excel, but also word processing, electronic calendars and email. Microsoft Office Suite is preferred.

  • Experience building and sustaining effective professional and courteous interpersonal relationships with internal and external clientele from all backgrounds.

  • Experience working with college students.

  • Experience working with enrollment and degree auditing software, such as DegreeWorks, CatCourse, Banner, MyInfo and/or relational database.

  • Knowledge of MSU student related policies and procedures.

  • Possess strong written and oral communication skills, the ability to communicate effectively with populations from all backgrounds, and the ability to interpret, implement, and articulate detailed information and new policies to a wide variety of constituents.

  • Have the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations and information appropriately.

  • Have competence organizing and prioritizing multiple work assignments with a high degree of accuracy and close attention to detail while meeting deadlines and exercising sound judgment and adaptability to changing priorities.

  • Possess the ability to serve as effective liaison with MSU Admissions, Registrar, Allen Yarnell Office of Student Success, Disabled Student Services, and the Office of International Programs.

  • Have the ability to develop a thorough understanding of MSU Banner, MyInfo, DegreeWorks, CatCourse, DocuSign, Excel, Word, and Outlook, registrar forms, policies, procedures, resources, and deadlines.

  • Will be a team player, flexible thinker and possess a positive attitude, initiative, sound judgement, excellent decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
