Brief Position Overview
This position is part of MSU’s Advising Commons Shared Services, which provides developmental academic advising for students in each college. In addition to advising students, this position serves as supervisor for a team of advisors within Advising Commons, promotes best practices, and ensures critical advising and registration information is shared between units served and Advising Commons.

Position Details
General Statement
Primary-role advisors in MSU’s Advising Commons Shared Services serve students in a variety of academic disciplines at MSU . This Advisor III position focuses on advising students and supporting and supervising the primary-role advisors in the units they serve. As a member of the Advising Commons leadership team, the successful candidate will be a critical liaison between Advising Commons and the academic unit(s) to which the lead is assigned.
Duties and Responsibilities
Supervise, train, evaluate, and mentor primary-role advisors within assigned academic units
Serve as liaison between leadership in assigned units, advisors supervised, and Advising Commons director
Advise students
Oversee and help coordinate academic advising as well as all advising-related outreach and communications in assigned units
Promote best practices and evaluate advising services in assigned units
Serve as a member of Advising Commons leadership team
Implement and assist with campus-wide advising initiatives and assessment
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with experience working with undergraduate college students in an academic or student support setting, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience
Experience working as an academic advisor
Experience working with academic curricula, degree requirements, policies and procedures in a higher education setting
Demonstrated knowledge of higher education offices and resources that support student success
Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
Master’s degree in a relevant field.
Supervisory experience
Experience working with enrollment and degree auditing software, such as DegreeWorks, CatCourse, Banner, MyInfo, NavMSU and/or relational database
