Position Details
General Statement
The Assistant Dean for Student Success and Outreach acts as the academic coordinator for the College, serving the undergraduate and graduate students. The Assistant Dean will work closely with the Dean, the Associate Dean and Department Heads to oversee and coordinate recruitment and retention efforts, scholarships, student issues, statistics and student-centered programs.
Our college is home to a wide variety of programs that provide transformative education, translational research, and engaging outreach programs to make significant contributions to the agricultural ecosystem and societal well-being in Montana and beyond.
Duties and Responsibilities
Spearhead, at the college level, local, regional, national and international recruitment efforts, in collaboration with the Dean, Associate Dean, and Department Heads, as well as the Office of Admissions.
Oversee college scholarships in close collaboration with MSU Foundation, including managing the College of Agriculture Scholarship Committee and the corresponding CatScholarship database.
Establish and maintain student support services, programs, and activities.
Direct the College of Agriculture Student Ambassador Program.
Partner with MSU Advising Commons on coordination of College of Agriculture advising commons.
Coordinate and represent the College of Agriculture in summer orientation programming, MSU Friday events and other special recruitment and orientation events.
Integrate inclusive practices into programs and processes.
Monitor, evaluate and appropriately disseminate data, metrics and statistics as they relate to the College’s key performance indicators (KPIs), to student success and to College operations in collaboration with the Office of Planning and Analysis.
Assist with policies and procedures relating to student support and conduct, including FERPA , plagiarism, disciplinary issues, disabilities, suspensions, course appeals, and other issues as they may arise, in concert with the Associate Dean for Academic Programs.
Facilitate student services, training, and onboarding for the departmental student success coordinators team.
Participate with the Dean’s office in event planning.
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
Master’s degree in relevant field appropriate to the duties and responsibilities of the position or equivalent demonstrated professional experience.
Demonstrated experience in student recruitment, retention, advising, and/or student success efforts in a higher education setting, OR an equivalent experience focused on student success and retention efforts.
Demonstrated experience working with and engaging diverse students and colleagues within and outside the university setting.
Demonstrated experience coordinating committees.
Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
PhD Degree in a related field.
Professional experience in a field represented in the College of Agriculture.
Demonstrated record of effective university teaching experience.
