General Statement

Culinary Services (http://www.montana.edu/ufs/) (CS), a division of Auxiliary Services, provides meals for over 12,000 customers a day becoming an integral part of campus life and the overall college experience. CS proudly provides Montana State University students with not only a repertoire of various cuisines, cooking styles, and flavors, but a comfortable atmosphere to meet friends, study, and simply relax. The division is comprised of 2 residential dining halls, 9 retail operations, Brick Breeden Fieldhouse and Bobcat Stadium Concessions, Fork in the Road food truck, MSU Catering, Indulge In-House Bakery & Salads, and the Farm to Campus Program.

Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Chef de Cuisine, the Assistant Warehouse Manger is a member of the dining hall management team and maintains a daily warehouse inventory base of $100K. The Assistant Warehouse Manager is a working supervisory position with duties including:

  • Supervise and train 2 full-time staff and 2-4 part-time staff:

  • Ensures staffing levels are appropriate and duties are being completed for each shift

  • Directs warehouse staff in receiving and stocking daily deliveries of large quantities of food, food service related items, and custodial supplies

  • Directs staff in storing and rotating food products according to expiration dates and sanitation rules

  • Ensures staff is following safe food handling procedures.

  • Schedules staff to deliver items to internal customers

  • Ensures excellent customer service

  • Maintains a computer inventory system and performs regular inventory counts

  • Evaluates inventory levels with the dining hall management team to determine weekly supply orders

  • Maintains facilities and equipment while communicating repair needs to upper management

  • Inspects product and works with vendors on any incomplete orders, damage claims, or rejected items

  • Determines logical storage locations for food and non-food items

  • Maintains compliance with safe food handling policies and procedures

  • Works in areas of the food service as needed

  • And actively participates as part of the team while performing other duties in support of the department’s mission.

    Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  • Progressively responsible warehouse management experience or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

  • Experience managing a large inventory system.

  • Supervisory experience coordinating, directing, and evaluating the work of others.

  • Proficient experience using computers and various software packages.

    Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  • Advanced degree or certificate in business, the hospitality field, culinary arts, or closely related fields.

  • Experience with computerized inventory and/or ordering systems.

  • Food service experience inclusive of working knowledge of safe food handling procedures and sanitation guidelines.

  • Be knowledgeable about State and Federal health and food safety guidelines.

  • Work effectively and efficiently in close cooperation with CS staff in a team-oriented environment

  • Operating vehicles in a safe manner and in all types of weather conditions.

  • Moving about while stocking product.

  • Using handles while operating hand trucks and hydraulic jacks.

  • Performing repetitive motions related to job duties.

  • Working for long periods of time at a computer.

  • Exposure to cleaning chemicals on a daily basis.
