The Gianforte School of Computing, housed in the Norm Asbjornson College of Engineering, invites applications for a faculty position at the level of Assistant Teaching Professor. The faculty position to be filled is a full-time, non-tenure track appointment with primary responsibilities in teaching, pedagogy and service/outreach. The successful candidate will become an integral part of the Computer Science program. Duties will include teaching lower-division courses, developing and teaching courses consistent with the candidate’s background, engaging in pedagogical activities and participating in professional/service/outreach activities.

Duties and Responsibilities
Contribute to Computer Science instruction, mentoring, and advising; engage in pedagogical activities; and participate in professional/service/outreach activities.
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
- PhD in Computer Science or related field by start date.
- Evidence of being an effective educator.
- Ability to teach a wide range of courses, including lower-division courses.
- Accomplishments commensurate with experience in the area of computer science pedagogy.
Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
- Potential to be an excellent educator.
- Potential to build a nationally recognized, externally funded program in the area of computer science pedagogy.
- Ability to work with and engage diverse students and colleagues within and outside the Computer Science program.

The Successful Candidate Will

The Gianforte School of Computing, housed in the Norm Asbjornson College of Engineering, offers PhD, MS and ABET-accredited BS degrees in Computer Science. Approximately 500 BS students, 25 MS students and 25 PhD students are supported by 15 full time faculty. Due to the pervasive nature of computing, our research collaborators include a wide range of other academic departments, campus research centers and industry. We are on an exciting growth trajectory that enabled us to transition from a Computer Science Department into a School of Computing in Fall 2016. We anticipate continuing growth as computing becomes increasingly instrumental to the success of the university’s research enterprise and to the region’s burgeoning industry.
The Norm Asbjornson College of Engineering comprises five academic units – Chemical & Biological Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical & Computer Engineering, the Gianforte School of Computing, and Mechanical & Industrial Engineering, and is home to the Center for Biofilm Engineering (CBE), Western Transportation Institute (WTI), Montana Microfabrication Facility (MMF), Subzero Science and Engineering Research Facility, Montana Engineering Education Research Center (MEERC), and Army and Air Force ROTC Units. The College enrolls approximately 3,900 students with more than 200 studying in graduate degree programs. Doctoral degree programs include a Ph.D. in Computer Science and a Ph.D. in Engineering with options in the fields of Applied Mechanics, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical & Computer Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Industrial Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering.
With a wide array of research programs in progress, MSU engineering faculty and students have garnered an impressive number of awards. In recent years, MSU engineering students have been recognized with a number of prestigious awards, including two Rhodes Scholarships, a Marshall Fellowship, a Gates-Cambridge Fellowship, and ten Goldwater scholarships. Excitement in the College is building in anticipation of the new Norm Asbjornson Hall, expected to be completed in Fall 2018. This innovative facility will transform engineering education and scholarly activity at MSU.
