Two ten hour days per week with possible flex. This position will be primarily Medical Oncology Clinical focus with flex to infusion as needed.
Job Details:POSITION DESCRIPTION POSITION SUMMARY Under the direction of a supervising physician, the Physician Assistant, provides primary care services to adults within the scope of their license. Primary care services include assessment, diagnosis, management and treatment of episodic illness and chronic illness, as well as health promotion and general evaluation of health status. Primary care services may be provided in provider based clinics and hospital inpatient units. REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION Required: Graduate of accredited Physician Assistant program Preferred: LICENSURE and CERTIFICATION Required: Preferred: EXPERIENCE Required: Two years of demonstrated competency in the skills and knowledge pertinent to the practice of Physician Assistant Demonstrated experience in adult care related to internal medicine or oncology. Prior experience in primary care or internal medicine preferred. Preferred: ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 40% Time Spent - Perform general physical examinations including heart, neck, pulmonary chest, cardiovascular, abdominal, and other routine exams; perform pelvic and breast examinations; initiate and perform selected diagnostic tests and prescribe medications as indicated and Identify physical and emotional illnesses through observations, interpretations of laboratory findings, and analysis of patient charts; analysis of diagnostic tests and appropriate medical, hospital, or other health care as needed. 15% Time Spent - Meet or follow up by telephone with patients in order to discuss and inform them of their laboratory test and exam results; educate patients regarding their illness; ensure that they return for follow up testing or treatments as necessary and make and provide appropriate referrals. 15% Time Spent - Counsel patients under medical treatment programs in order to assess their health progress; identify reoccurring problem areas; establish written and verbal treatment plans to solve specific problem areas; evaluate compliance with the treatment plan and modify the treatment plan based on the patient's response to treatment. 10% Time Spent - Keep accurate patient records and maintain and update files as necessary. 10% Time Spent - Collaborate with patient's primary physician or on call physician regarding patient's plan of care. Additional Job Functions Complete workup for patients who will be admitted to the hospital and prepare preliminary hospital orders, Provide follow-up care to Emergency Department and hospitalized patients as necessary Coordinate work schedule with other providers to meet needs of patient population Manage anticoagulation therapy patients Participate in chart reviews as directed Perform related duties and responsibilities as required. PA Addendum: Cancer Center During probationary period completes required Radiation Therapy training via CD and/or other materials per policy and procedure. During probationary period completes required Radiation Therapy training with the Radiation Oncologist per policy and procedure. During probationary period completes Radiation Therapy clinical training with the Radiation Oncologist. Oversees patient care in the Radiation Therapy department once training is completed and as assigned by the manager. Will have over-site of the following: 1) symptom management 2) curtailing radiation therapy 3) initiating therapy that has been planned and approved by the Radiation Oncologist.
