Bozeman Health CLINICAL LAB SCIENTIST in Bozeman, Montana

  • POSITION DESCRIPTION

  • POSITION SUMMARY

  • Performs maintenance, calibration and quality control in a wide variety of clinical laboratory settings. Performs analysis on blood and other body fluids. Reviews and analyzes data from calibration, quality control and patient testing. Testing will include that defined as "waived", "moderately complex" and "highly complex". Treats Health care Providers, patients and co-workers professionally with an eye towards achieving a high level of customer service and satisfaction. May assist in training students and new staff. Manages supplies and inventory. Monitors workload, responding accordingly. Works with Lab Assistants, monitoring their work and advising. Note, depending on job assignment, some essential functions may vary.

  • REQUIREMENTS

  • EDUCATION

  • Required:

  • Education sufficient to obtain a Montana State license as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist.

  • Preferred:

  • B.S. degree in Clinical Laboratory Science Or B.S. degree in a related science curriculum, including prescribed hours and courses in math, biology and chemistry and approximately 2000 hours in an accredited hospital-based clinical program

  • LICENSURE and CERTIFICATION

  • Required:

  • Current holder of a Montana Clinical Laboratory Scientist License. Licensure must be maintained throughout employment.

  • Preferred:

  • certification by The American Society of Clinical Pathologists as a Medical Technologist

  • EXPERIENCE

  • Required:

  • None other than clinical experience listed above

  • If Team Lead:

  • At least 2 years of clinical laboratory experience as a laboratory scientist.

  • KNOWLEDGE OF, SKILLS IN, ABILITY TO, COMPLEXITY AND DIFFICULY:

  • KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • SKILLS IN:

  • Typing, general computer skills, i.e. word processing, e-mail, spreadsheets, and ability to learn the Meditech Information System.

  • ABILITY TO:

  • Ability to refer to policy and procedure manuals for specific instructions and guidelines.

  • Ability to follow policies and procedures.

  • Ability to independently analyze and solve problems.

  • Ability to flexibly adapt to a variety of workload assignments.

  • COMPLEXITY AND DIFFICULTY:

  • ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • 45% Time Spent - Calibrates and operates automated laboratory instruments.

  • 10% Time Spent - Performs manual testing according to written procedures.

  • 15% Time Spent - Enters results, approves and validates results and manipulates data in the Laboratory Information System.

  • 10% Time Spent - Monitors results, quality control and instrument conditions, investigating outliers and deviations.

  • 20% Time Spent - Troubleshoots and repairs instruments, assists with developing new procedures, assists with orienting and training, preparation of reagents and controls.
