Hiring Community Director (CD) positions for Academic Year 2024-2025! This live-in position is responsible for providing educational and administrative leadership in developing diverse and inclusive communities enhancing student learning, belonging, and development. The CD is student-centered, customer-service oriented, and has the ability and desire to work in an organization fostering academic success and personal growth.

Position Details

General Statement

University Student Housing (https://www.montana.edu/housing/index.html) manages 11 on-campus communities that are the home of up to 6000 students and residents while they attend MSU . Each community has professional staff, including a Community Director (CD), that is vital to the management of that community. Under the supervision of an Area Coordinator, the CD is responsible for the overall management of the community they are assigned to and the students residing in said community.

Duties and Responsibilities

CDs can expect to interact with students, University staff/faculty, parents and perspective students on a daily basis while performing the duties of the position:

  • Developing a sense of community and belonging.

  • Promoting student development.

  • Managing security and safety procedures.

  • Overseeing student conduct within the community.

  • Conducting regular meetings with residents to share information and to provide a forum to discuss resident concerns.

  • Supervision of staff to include: centralized staff selection, training, and evaluations.

  • Over-seeing the front desk operations of the community.

  • Advising students both individually and in groups concerning academic, social, and personal problems.

  • Advising student committees.

  • Serving as a liaison with Housekeeping Staff, Maintenance Supervisor, Service Shop workers, University Police and Counseling Services to maintain sound working relationships for their services.

  • And actively participating as part of the team while performing other duties in support of the department’s mission.

    Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

  • At least two years working with and/or leading students in a college setting.

  • At least one year of working experience in on-campus housing.

  • Experience developing and maintaining a highly functioning team.

  • Demonstrated success implementing programs that promote student retention.

  • Experience working effectively with a diverse community and promoting inclusion through programming, education, and training.

    Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  • Master’s degree.

  • At least one year of advanced professional experience in housing with an emphasis on creating community and an environment conducive to academic success.

  • Leadership/Supervisory experience coordinating, directing, and evaluating the work of others.

  • Experience in creating and implementing student leadership programs.

  • Experience advising student organizations.

  • Campus-wide on-call experience.

  • Demonstrated competence adjudicating student conduct cases and implementing intentional, education sanctions.

  • Full-time, live-in position with a furnished apartment and a board plan (when the food service is open for residential service).

  • Department wide there are 11 communities managed by CDs. Community placement will be taken into consideration on a yearly basis during the creation of teams for each of these facilities.

  • Position is eligible for full employee benefit package and a tuition waiver up to 6 credits per semester.

  • Occasional travel for professional development.

  • Will participate in the Housing’s campus wide emergency response rotation and react to emergency situations as needed across Housing areas.

  • Will work flexible hours during evening, weekend, and transitional periods (opening/closing) and occasional holidays.

    Physical Demands

  • Navigate campus and the areas in and around the residence halls and apartment communities.

  • Occasionally move irregular shaped packages and boxes of up to 30 lbs.
