Haven Custodian in Bozeman, Montana

Haven began serving survivors in 1979. Over the last four decades, Haven has worked to both provide safe intervention for survivors of domestic violence, as well as to prevent future violence from occurring. We believe increased awareness through community education can make us all allies in ending domestic violence.Haven is the only nonprofit serving survivors of domestic violence and sexual violence, sex trafficking, and stalking in Gallatin County. Our approach makes us unique - everything we do is deeply and genuinely rooted in empowerment. We connect survivors to the resources and help they need while trusting they should be the ones to decide what’s best for their own journey.Haven’s Custodian will play a crucial role in maintaining the cleanliness, functionality and overall positive atmosphere of The Barnard Center. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, the ability to work independently, and make ethical decisions. They will also be committed to Haven’s mission and be willing to actively help contribute to and maintain a positive, supportive culture at the organization.Responsibilities:Custodial (60%):●Maintain cleanliness of the entryways, common areas, kitchens, breakrooms, offices, laundry room, kid’s area, elevator, stairwells and hallways by making sure all trash, composting and recycling are emptied appropriately, floors are swept and mopped, and carpets are vacuumed. ●Dust and/or wipe identified surfaces such as tabletops and countertops, excluding desktops and computer equipment in offices.●Maintain restroom cleanliness by making sure all sinks, mirrors, shelves, countertops, shower stalls and toilets are clean, all trash receptacles are emptied, floors are swept and mopped, all dispensers such as toilet paper, paper towels and soap are stocked, and shower drains are free of hair.●Maintain cleanliness in kitchens by making sure sinks, countertops and appliances are clean. Place dishes in dishwasher as needed. Empty trash, composting and recycling receptacles when full. Restock dish soap and paper towels; assist with keeping kitchen inventory stocked and items are stored in the assigned location in conjunction with the Facilities & Security Manager and the Administrative & HR Coordinator.●Empty outdoor trash receptacles including pet and smoking areas.●Assist with setting up/taking down chairs and tables for group meetings and events.●Properly use custodial equipment, cleaning supplies and chemicals and properly maintain them.Facilities Maintenance (30%):●During snow season, remove snow from all facility driveway, parking areas, sidewalks, and the fire lane at the start and end of shift, and throughout the shift if necessary. Sand sidewalks and entryways as needed.●During growing season, mow and water applicable areas as needed.●Perform a variety of facilities maintenance duties including minor repairs, washing windows and walls (if needed), furniture assembly and interior touchup painting.●Regularly inspect the facility for proactive/preventative maintenance, cleanliness and safety. Keep documented records of findings and report maintenance issues and needed repairs to Facilities & Security Manager.●Assist with vehicle maintenance and cleaning as directed by the Facilities & Security Manager.Other (10%):●Assist with room turnover and clean-up after a resident moves out, which may include laundry, minor repairs, touchup painting, washing windows and walls.●Assist with inventory and management of supplies and donations with support from Facilities & Security Manager and Administrative & HR Coordinator.●Ability to occasionally alter schedule to cover planned and unplanned absences.●Assume other duties deemed necessary by Facilities & Security Manager and/or Chief Operating Officer.Minimum Qualifications:●One (1) year of experience in the field of facility/custodial/janitorial service.●Driver’s license and reliable transportation.●Ability to be flexible with work schedule and able to work during Haven’s operational hours and may include days, evenings and weekends.●Ability to interact in a respectful and empathetic manner when engaging with Haven staff and participants.●Ability to empathize with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures.●Ability to adapt and cope with high-stress situations.●Must successfully pass a background check.Preferred Qualifications:●Custodial/janitorial experience in a large, public facility.●Customer service experience is highly valued.Training that is provided:●Haven’s Volunteer Advocacy training.Physical Demand and Work Environment:●The physical requirements of this position are considered Heavy Work, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force regularly to move objects.●Must be able to work indoors and outdoors in variable weather conditions and extreme temperatures.●Must be able to work in a moderately noisy environment.●While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms. ●This position is very active and requires the employee to frequently stand and/or walk for long periods of time during the workday and occasionally run, climb or balance.●Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.●The physical demands and work environment described there are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. ●Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Responsible to:Facilities & Security ManagerHours of Work:This is a part-time, non-exempt hourly position. The hours are Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 7 am - 12 noon. May occasionally require additional hours which may include days, evenings and weekends on an on-call basis.Compensation:Haven uses a compensation equity calculator to set pay at the organization. Calculator scores are determined by responsibilities, professional and personal experience, and physical and emotional labor required to successfully meet the job requirements. The starting wage for this position is $23.30 an hour.Additionally, Haven offers generous benefits including 50% of health, vision and dental insurance; 80 hours of annual paid time off (PTO) during the first three years of employment and 100 hours of annual PTO thereafter; 6 paid holidays; one week of sick leave annually; accrue up to 10 weeks of paid parental leave fully available after 12 months of employment; wellness reimbursement of up to $40 per month; an employee matching SIMPLE IRA available January 1; and a monthly cell phone stipend of $40 per month.Probation Period:12 months
