Position Details

General Statement

The Director of the Office of Field Placement & Licensure is paramount to the success and effectiveness of MSU’s entire Teacher Education Program. Student placement in high quality clinical experience is absolutely essential for the successful preparation of new teachers. The Director provides significant leadership in this regard, developing and maintaining relationships with K-12 schools and districts in Montana, across the nation, and internationally.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for developing and maintaining partnerships with local, state and national P-12 schools for MSU students completing programs of study leading to licensure as P-12 teachers.

  • Representative of the teacher education program who is responsible for working with cooperating teachers, school administrators, and the Montana Office of Public Instruction to ensure that all requirements of the field experiences and coursework are met through mutually beneficial partnerships.

  • Coordinates field placements for both practicum and student teaching internships, developing and implementing orientations and trainings for all parties involved in the field experiences.

  • Oversees the work of the Field Placement and Licensure including the budget and staff

    Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  • Master’s degree in Education or closely related field.

  • Successful experience as a licensed teacher in K-12 schools;

  • Demonstrated competence in supervising pre-service teachers in field experiences;

  • Knowledge of accreditation processes and requirements.

    Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  • Doctoral degree in Education or closely related field;

  • Demonstrated success in leadership, program administration and data-based decision-making;

  • Knowledge of Montana school systems and Montana school law;

  • Knowledge of University, and State rules and regulations governing the operation of teacher education and educational leadership programs;

  • Experience working with student organizations;

  • Experience working with diverse populations.

    The Successful Candidate Will

  • Have effective interpersonal and conflict management skills including the ability to collaborate successfully with faculty, staff, students, state officials, and K-12 partners;

  • Have the ability to establish rapport and communicate clearly with a college student population;

  • Have strong organizational and time management skills;

  • Display an aptitude for problem solving and facilitating the work of others in a team-oriented environment;

  • Possess the ability to provide leadership and assume responsibility for organizational and program activities;

  • Be skilled at prioritizing, organizing, and working on multiple projects; maintain effective attention to detail, meeting deadlines, and prioritizing competing demands;

  • Have excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills in person, over the telephone, and electronically;

  • Be confident and competent in oral presentation and excel in public speaking;

  • Maintain confidentiality of records and information.
