DOWL Engineering Technician 2 in Bozeman, Montana

Summary

Produce accurate final drawings of varying complexity with little guidance and assist in training of less experienced technicians.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • With supervision and direction from an engineer or the department manager, accurately create and modify drawings using the appropriate software (AutoCAD Civil 3D, AutoCAD Plant 3D, MicroStation and/or Revit) as required (depending on the type of discipline for this position): base maps, civil engineering, transportation design, site and utility plans, process and instrumentation drawings, and process mechanical plans for municipal and industrial water and wastewater facilities, planning, geotechnical and environmental report figures. The foundation for these drawings may be generated from various data including digitizing, computations, GIS data, 3D scanning, or other survey information.

  • Assist engineers with computations for pipeline plan and profile sheets, site grading and project quantities.

  • Work with multi-disciplined teams to efficiently integrate and coordinate project information from multiple disciplines into design products.

  • Assist with display graphics, report figures, and three-dimensional facility renderings.

  • Assist with regular filing of large format drawings, both physical and electronic.

  • Assist the other departments with completion of drawings including base maps, site layout drawings record surveys, ALTA surveys, plats, plot plans and maps which may include contours and digital terrain models. This may include some fieldwork.

  • Other duties may be assigned

Education and/or Experience

Three to five years of work experience in civil engineering field or equivalent combination of work experience and college-level course work.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical analysis, and fundamentals of geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions and angular relationships to practical situations.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Sufficient English skills to compose correspondence, proofread documents, and effectively communicate with supervisors, other technicians, and clients.

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variables.

  • Proficient knowledge of current versions of Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel software, Windows Operating System, and several printing output devices.

  • Solid knowledge of: Revit, AutoCAD Civil 3D, AutoCAD Plant 3D, or related software programs and industry standards and practices.

  • Understand civil engineering CADD processes and goals associated with the work. Additional knowledge of Autodesk Revit is also desired.

  • Ability to problem solve and use available resources to learn and adjust to continually-changing software and technologies.

  • Ability to prioritize daily workload to ensure that all work is completed in a timely and efficient manner.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is regularly required to stand; walk and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds and may be asked to do some large format filing. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
