General Statement

MSU Extension improves the lives of Montana citizens by providing unbiased research-based education and information that integrates learning, discovery and engagement to strengthen the social, economic and environmental well-being of individuals, families, and communities. Extension Communications & Technology provides innovative, results-oriented communications and technology solutions that support and promote the mission and image of MSU Extension.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and manages MSU Extension’s social media presence, including content creation, utilizing various platforms & technology tools to post content, and user analytics.

  • Managing editor of Lives & Landscapes Magazine, coordinating editorial and communications team and writing articles for the magazine.

  • Support print and digital external marketing and communications strategies for MSU Extension by creating written and visual content for websites, social media, reports, brochures and other publications.

  • Work with Extension faculty & staff to promote their programs and projects to a wide variety of audiences, including citizens of Montana, stakeholders and legislators.

  • Continually find new and innovative ways to share and promote the mission of Extension.

    Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, communications, media or related field, plus progressively responsible experience in marketing, communications & social media.

  • Demonstrated experiences writing magazine, social media and website content, including developing external outreach/stakeholder relationships.

  • Demonstrated experience providing leadership and working as a member of a collaborative project team, with proven ability to work with a diverse group of people.

  • Experience designing publications, ads and collateral materials for social media, and basic understanding of MS Office, Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator programs.

  • Demonstrated experience and technical ability creating and managing a social presence using a wide variety of social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and others.

    Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  • Understanding of MSU Extension programs.

  • Experience creating social media guidelines and policy.

  • Experience sharing technical knowledge and skills in the area of communications & social media using a wide variety of methods.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a diverse group of professionals through excellent verbal, written and presentation skills, both in person and utilizing a variety of distance communication tools.

  • Works effectively as a team member and can support and enhance the work of others through positive interactions.

  • Maintain attention to detail, meet deadlines and prioritize competing demands.

  • Organize and set priorities among multiple work assignments while meeting deadlines and adapting to interruptions and changing priorities.
