General Statement

The Office of International Programs ( OIP ) serves as Montana State University’s international gateway by facilitating connections, programs and experiences that bring the world to Montana and Montana to the world. Our mission is to enable students, faculty, staff, and communities to explore the international dimensions of learning, discovery, and engagement.

Reporting to the Managing Director for Study Abroad and Travel Compliance , the International Travel Compliance Advisor is a critical team member in achieving the mission of excellent service and support to the MSU community members pursuing global experiences and travel overseas. In this role, the International Travel Compliance Advisor helps to ensure the health and safety of all MSU international travelers as well as providing assistance to the Managing Director with establishment of global partnership agreements.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver pre-departure orientations to faculty/staff and students.

  • Coordinate international travel/health insurance, understanding policy intricacies, as well as advising and enrolling faculty, staff and students, and writing incident reports while ensuring compliance.

  • Assist in crisis management for all constituents served by the Office of Global Engagement.

  • Coordinate and track global partnerships agreements.

    Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  • Progressively responsible experience interpreting and applying complex policies, regulations, or laws as the main focus of the position.

  • Demonstrated experience using personal computers and various software such as word processing, spreadsheets, database, presentation, email and internet. Microsoft Office software preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience with relational databases entering, querying and analyzing data.

  • Experience providing customer service to diverse constituency.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Communications or a relevant field or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

  • Knowledge of or experience in higher education environment

    Position Special Requirements/Additional Information

  • This position requires occasional evening and/or weekend hours for scheduled events depending on department need.

  • Occasional domestic travel may be required
