Brief Position Overview

Under the supervision of the Montana Dietetic Internship Co-Directors, this position will be filled by a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist ( RDN ) with responsibilities to perform a variety of administrative, professional and organizational duties that facilitate the day-to-day operations and logistics of the Master of Science (M.S.) dietetic internship (DI) program. This individual will assist in providing administrative support to the Co-Directors, customer service to students, preceptors, prospective students, and community partners; program planning, student selection, and M.S. coordination; gathering and monitoring program feedback, and analyzing program operation and procedures information; plus, coordinate graduate committees.

Position Details

General Statement

The Montana Dietetic Internship and Dietetic Systems Leadership Master of Science degree are programs in the Department of Food Systems, Nutrition & Kinesiology in the College of Education, Health and Human Development. The Montana Dietetic Internship prepares highly capable entry-level food and nutrition professionals on their path to becoming Registered Dietitians who can integrate sustainable food systems into dietetic practice when employed in

clinical, foodservice, community nutrition and integrated practice settings located in rural or urban facilities in Montana or the Rocky Mountain region.

The Assistant Director will be required to work independently with very little supervision, to act on behalf of the directors and make programmatic decisions in the directors’ absence, represent the directors and program at various meetings, and overall, be able to utilize professional knowledge, judgment and skills to make decisions, and clearly communicate the priorities and views of the directors and program in a clear and concise manner. The Assistant Director will engage in program planning, and M.S. coordination; gathering and monitoring program feedback, and analyzing program operation and procedures information; plus, coordinate graduate committees. The Assistant Director will be required to efficiently orchestrate multiple priorities and deadlines, while keeping the program directors apprised of any issues or problems that may arise in a timely manner.

Duties and Responsibilities

Teaching & Professional Project Advising

  • Assist teaching in the MDI orientation and foundation weeks and teaching, grading, providing feedback, and other course delivery tasks for NUTR 598, including the Personal Goals, Social Media, Clinical Case Presentation Assignments, and others, as assigned.

  • Assist with NUTR 560 and D2L coursework materials management.

  • Serve as advisor for intern professional projects including topic development, instructing/advising on research methodology and grading project assignments and final paper.

Program Management

  • Support application process of graduate and internship programs

  • Manage and process received applications

  • Organize applicant data for review committee and ranking

  • Coordinate selection committee meetings/interviews and student advising meetings

  • Assist in coordinating intern admission and orientation requirements, including application fee collections/deposits

  • Coordinate with Graduate School to process admissions

  • Organize and store required intern paperwork

  • Manage sensitive data · Provide intern onboarding support

  • Event and travel coordination and planning for program directors and speakers

  • Maintain and order program equipment and supplies

  • Prepare program materials and manage data

  • Engage in leadership service to the University, community and profession. Commit to continuing professional education to maintain registration credentials and Montana Nutritionist Licensure

Program Assessment and Accreditation

  • Administer program evaluations and compile results

  • Analyze and produce reports

  • Assist in developing and implementing policies and procedures that ensure compliance with department, university, and program accreditation

Communications

  • Design, develop content, and manage social media: MDI Facebook, Instagram, MDI webpage, MDI blog, YouTube, MDI intranet advising sites, etc.

  • Assist in development of documents, videos, and other media including proofing and editing, including making files accessible to meet Section 508 and WCAG standards.

  • Produce and disseminate promotional materials for graduate and internship programs · Maintain and update handbooks and policy manuals

  • Display professional customer service and create evidence-based written and verbal communications for all stakeholders in-person or virtually

  • Use varied professional communication skills to represent program in meetings as necessary

Graduate Coordination & DI Onboarding

  • Support Co-Directors in the following:

  • Provide support to faculty for syllabus development to include the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics ( ACEND ) required competencies.

  • Set-up MS student graduate committees.

  • Coordinate MSU Graduate School admissions process. Assist in the coordination of the dietetic internship (DI) intern selection committee and selection of interns annually. Review and score all MS/DI applications and evaluate for best fit to the program.

  • Collect MDI application fees & deposits

  • Assist in coordinating graduate student admission and orientation requirements

  • Assist with DI onboarding to the program, intern records management and clinical site onboarding

  • Gather and provide data/reports to the Director as needed; to include but not limited to, Post-graduate, Preceptor, and Employer surveys

  • Assist in coordinating and facilitating DI preceptor and or faculty trainings

    Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  • The qualified candidate will have professional dietetic credentialing ( RDN ) and demonstrated relevant experience in dietetic practice, education, or program administration.

  • Demonstrated formal or informal teaching experience and evidence of effective teaching.

  • Demonstrated experience conducting research, writing and presenting findings, and dissemination/outreach.

  • Demonstrated experience working with and engaging diverse students and colleagues within and outside the department.

  • Demonstrated experience organizing and prioritizing multiple work assignments, deadlines and exercising adaptability to changing priorities while maintaining a positive, effective, and professional attitude.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of word processing, spreadsheet software, web-based communications, and social media.

    Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  • Master’s Degree in Food & Nutrition, Hospitality, Nutrition Sciences, or closely related field

  • Demonstrated proficiency in Indigenous or sustainable food systems, weight inclusive care, and/or clinical dietetics practice.

  • Demonstrated experience in clinical nutrition professional practice.

  • Demonstrated experience in an ACEND accredited dietetic education program management.

  • Demonstrated experience in supervised practice teaching environments.

  • Promote the advancement of diversity, equity and inclusion in dietetics education and practice.
