This position may be covered by a Voluntary Employee Beneficiary Association (VEBA) *JOB DUTIES: This position is part of a career ladder with career advancement opportunities. The Multi-Discipline Building Code Inspector will be performing a combination of electrical, building, and plumbing/mechanical inspections in southwest Montana area. Your decisions and solutions to problems will directly affect the public’s safety, health and welfare; the quality of construction and their compliance with adopted Codes and the economic impact related to installation, maintenance and repair costs, on business owners, users and customers. As a Multi-Discipline Building Code Inspector you will: * Conduct inspections for compliance with adopted Codes, Administrative Rules and State law. * Investigate complaints and conduct investigations. * Perform administrative duties including on site plan review and field issuing permits. Inspector Level 1 ($28.85 - $29.65): * Combination Inspector Trainee – Minimum of 6 months experience in a construction related field or Associate Degree in a construction related field. * Boiler Inspector Trainee – Minimum of 5 years of experience in installation, repair or operation of boilers and/ or boiler systems and obtain a 3rd class Boiler Operator’s license within one year. * Elevator Inspector Trainee - Minimum of 4 years of experience in installation and/or maintenance of Elevators, Escalators, Lifts or similar conveyances and be able to obtain QEI certification within one year. Inspector Level 2 ($30.19 - $31.02): Single Discipline Inspector – Must have one of the qualifications listed below. * Building Inspector - ICC IBC Building inspector certification and ICC IBC Plan review certification or bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, or related field. * Electrical Inspector - Montana Master or Journeyman Electrical License o ICC E1 (residential) and ICC E2 (commercial) certifications * Plumbing/Mechanical Inspector - Montana Master or Journeyman Plumbing License (can also perform fuel gas and mechanical code inspections.) o IAPMO Uniform Plumbing Code, International Fuel Gas Code and International Mechanical Code certifications * Boiler Inspector Third Class Stationary Engineers License (must successfully obtain NBIC Commission within first year of employment.) Inspector Level 3 ($32.68 - $33.71): Two Discipline Inspector or Boiler Inspector or Elevator Inspector – Must be certified in two of the three qualifications listed above (Building Inspector, Electrical Inspector, Plumbing/Mechanical Inspector) of the following: * Elevator Inspector Minimum Qualifications: QEI License * Boiler Inspector Minimum Qualifications: First Class Stationary Engineers License from the State of Montana, or a National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Commission. * A combination of two of the following: Third Class Stationary Engineers License, National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Commission, Licensed Journeyman or Master Plumber, Certified as UPC Plumbing Inspector AND Certified as ICC Mechanical and Fuel Gas Inspector. Inspector Level 4 ($35.16 - $36.40): Full multi-discipline Inspector * Building, Electrical and Plumbing/Mechanical * Boiler, Electrical or Plumbing/Mechanical * Elevator, and Electrical KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITES: If you are the right person for this opportunity, you will have the following knowledge, skills or abilities: Knowledge of (or ability to learn in a reasonable amount of time): * State adopted building codes, rules, laws and policies applicable to the position. Skill in: * Verbal and written communication. * Self-direction, analyzing information. * Customer service and organization. Ability to: * Develop and maintain positive relationships. * Present information in an understandable way. * Meet deadlines. * Manage work schedule with minimal oversight. * Work individually and as part of a team. * Take a logical approach to problems, identify root causes and seek solutions using problem-solving and critical-thinking. * Identify complex problems and review related information to evaluate and recommend options with emphasis on life safety. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS * Minimum of 6 months experience in a construction related field or associate degree in a construction related field. Preferred Qualifications included the following certifications: * ICC IBC Building Inspector Certification and ICC IBC Plan Review Certification. * Montana master or journeyman electrical license, or * ICC E1 (residential) and ICC E2 (commercial) certification. * Montana Master or Journeyman Plumbing license (can also perform fuel gas and mechanical code inspections, or; * IAPMO Uniform Plumbing Code International Fuel Gas Code and International Mechanical Code Certification. OR * Any combination of equivalent experience and education to successfully perform the essential functions of the position will be considered.
