Bozeman Health PHLEBOTOMIST in Bozeman, Montana
Working under general supervision, the phlebotomist will collect blood and body fluids, perform EKG’s, communicate essential information to co-workers, maintain a professional manner in dealing with patients and co-workers, perform clerical duties such as filing, Requisition Entry, telephone communication and other information system work, perform courier services to Bozeman Health clients and perform DOT urine collections and breath alcohol testing, and perform other duties as assigned.
- High School graduate (or equivalent).
LICENSURE and CERTIFICATION
- It is expected that the applicant will become certified as a DOT-urine drug screen collector and breath alcohol tester within 6 months of hire
All training and training opportunities are provided by BDH. Training opportunities are offered at least every 6 months.
- Phlebotomy orientation course
KNOWLEDGE OF, SKILLS IN, ABILITY TO, COMPLEXITY AND DIFFICULY:
- Personal Computers, hardware and basic software programs.
Blood collection techniques and awareness of factors that contribute to specimen integrity.
EKG performance techniques and awareness of factors that contribute to proper testing.
Urine Drug testing collection techniques. Breath Alcohol testing techniques.
- Evidence of good communication skills, organizational skills, and interpersonal skills
Collecting blood from venous, capillary and arterial sources.

50% Time Spent - Collects blood specimens from patients in a variety of settings.
10% Time Spent - Performs Breath alcohol testing and collects COC urine drug screen specimens
10% Time Spent - Performs EKG’s on patients in a variety of settings.
20% Time Spent - Performs clerical duties: filing, bill-checking, etc.
10% Time Spent - Performs Downtime HOV registrations, Requisition Entry, and enters laboratory orders.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Performs urine drug screen collections
Performs breath alcohol testing
Performs housekeeping chores within the Laboratory Information System
Answers the telephone and, with a minimum of transfers, gets answers to callers’ questions.
Handles, packing lists, ships, stores, retrieves and delivers patient specimens for testing.
