Oracle Product Mgmt/Strategy Director-ProdDev in Bozeman, Montana

Manage a team that acts as the central resource and driving force for the design, process, manufacturing, test, quality and marketing of product(s) as they move from conception to distribution. Organize interdepartmental activities ensuring completion of the project/product on schedule and within budget.

As a Director in the product development division, you will lead a team that defines product specifications and or strategy. Gather and analyze information to define product specifications and review design specifications. Envision and communicate product strategy and functionality. Initiate and foster relationships with other groups. Review product documentation and collateral. Ensure successful product releases based on corporate priorities.

Assists in the development of short, medium, and long term plans to achieve strategic objectives. Regularly interacts across functional areas with senior management or executives to ensure unit objectives are met. The ability to influence thinking or gain acceptance of others in sensitive situations is important. Demonstrated leadership and people management skills. Strong communication skills, analytical skills, thorough understanding of product development and product management. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 8 of software engineering or related experience preferred.

This is a remote/office based position which may be performed anywhere in the United States except for within the state of Colorado.

We are looking for a uniquely qualified person to join a growing, innovative Oracle team and program. Oracle for Research focuses on collaborating with researchers to expand Oracle Cloud adoption by researchers, on nurturing and developing community, and on sharing the ways researchers use Oracle Cloud to change the world through their work. The program provides researchers across disciplines with open communities; high-value, cost-effective, robust Oracle Cloud technologies; and startup and industry collaborations to find solutions to complex problems.

The ideal candidate will have experience leading virtual or direct teams, an advanced degree, and 10 years of professional experience, with at least 5 years of hands-on experience with OCI, AWS or Azure. Functional expertise in a computationally intensive research area and expertise with HPC and GPU shapes is preferred. The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to manage projects and cultivate corporate and academic relationships at all levels. The ideal candidate will be someone who initially can both strategically manage a small team and engage directly in hands-on solutions architecture work with researchers. As the team grows, responsibilities will shift more toward management.

Responsibilities

As the leader of the cloud solutions architect team, you and your team will leverage Oracle’s rich technical offerings and collaborate with researchers at all levels to translate research questions into computational problems that can be explored and addressed using the Oracle Cloud, helping to accelerate research time to results in significant ways.

  • Lead and manage the small but growing Oracle for Research team of Cloud Solutions Architects

  • Engage with member researchers and their ecosystems in North America to understand their work, identify technical ways in which use of Oracle Cloud would add value to their research projects, and work collaboratively with researchers and Oracle resources and teams to create Oracle Cloud architectures to support the projects.

  • Work closely with research teams in North America to help them understand and maximize the value of Oracle cloud services for their work, and manage the technical aspects of each research collaboration to support the researcher’s successful use of Oracle Cloud and the achievement of mutually agreed project-driven milestones and outcomes.

  • Working with Oracle for Research leadership and the Research Product Development team, use on the ground experience with researchers to drive work to expand Oracle offerings supporting researchers, including spearheading projects that could lead to collaborative open source offerings and new Oracle services for research collaboration, data sharing, and resource management.

  • Keep current on the latest HPC technologies and architect HPC deployments to include compute, networking, and storage, with a focus on optimizing GPU resource utilization.

  • Work with Oracle for Research marketing to develop documentation and white papers describing research use cases, and technical how-to guides for researchers using Oracle Cloud.

  • Where appropriate, co-author academic papers with researchers to describe the computational methods used on the project, including use of Oracle Cloud

  • Organize and lead cross-functional teams from other LOBs to help more effectively support and engage with researchers, including developing technical “mentors” for Oracle for Research.

  • Support the development of an Oracle research user community, both online and in person. Activities may include, for example, for example engaging in conversations with researchers about their use of Oracle Cloud on Github, offering or organizing technical lectures at academic institutions, and initiating and attending meetups.

  • Identify academic journals, conferences and other research computing events where Oracle for Research should be present to expand visibility and engagement.

  • Through communications, actions and direct collaboration with researchers, establish and expand Oracle's reputation as a valued collaborator and thought leader in research.

Ideal Candidate Background

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Demonstrated leadership experience with direct or virtual teams

  • Hands-on experience with a wide range of Oracle OCI services and Oracle PaaS services, including Oracle databases, and a good understanding of the Oracle Cloud technology landscape

  • Experience implementing OCI and Oracle Cloud, preferably for research projects, and managing HPC workloads on public clouds (OCI, AWS and/or Azure)

  • Working knowledge of distributed/parallel file systems (GPFS, Lustre, etc.)

  • Familiarity with core infrastructure (virtualization, bare metal, Kubernetes), databases (Oracle Autonomous Database, MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB) and caches (ELK, Redis, Memcached)

  • Knowledge of infrastructure automation (Chef, Terraform), integration (APIs, iPaaS, SOA), HPC schedulers (PBS, Slurm, SunGrid, LSF, Torque) and emerging technologies (blockchain, ML/AI)

  • Functional knowledge in a computationally intensive academic research discipline such as bioinformatics, genomics, molecular dynamics, or other

  • OCI, AWS and/or Azure certifications

  • A passion for creative problem solving and innovation, and a proven ability to turn ideas into actions and deliverables

  • Excellent people skills and an ability to engage at all levels with researchers, with a genuine enthusiasm for OCI services and advanced database technologies

  • Strong written, oral and visual communication skills; proven experience articulating complex research and technical problems in ways that can be understood and appreciated by non-experts

  • The ability to learn quickly, engage effectively in multiple projects simultaneously, and adjust priorities quickly, while maintaining a high degree of organization

  • Fluency in English; other languages are a plus

  • An advanced degree; peer-reviewed academic publications are a plus
