General Statement
The Program Manager Medical Records & Student Health Insurance provides daily leadership and oversight of all business activities related to electronic health/medical records, student health insurance and Student Health Services technology. This position primarily supports Student Health Services and acts as an intentional partner with all departments in Student Wellness.
Student Health Services will be housed in the new Student Wellness Center ( SWC ). The SWC will enhance the integrated and whole person model of student health and wellbeing at MSU through recreation, student support and clinical services.
The Program Manager Medical Records & Student Insurance will serve on the Student Health Services Leadership Team and supervise collaborate with team members throughout the department.
Duties and Responsibilities
Co-Management of student health insurance program including:
Customer service.
Enrollments and waivers.
Coordination with the MUS student insurance consortium and the insurance vendor.
Coordination with Banner office and Student Accounts.
Participation in requests for proposals (RFPs).
Documentation and submission of in-house charges to insurance company.
Assisting students with benefits information, claims submissions and explanations of benefits.
Management of health information software including:
Oversight of workflow and charting.
Software onboarding of front office workers, technicians and health care providers.
Acting as principal point of contact for software vendor.
Oversight of data security in compliance with HIPPA and FERPA laws.
Development and maintenance of forms and clinical protocols.
Management of appointment reminders.
Development and management of patient portal.
Benchmarking to improve patient care and clinical outcomes.
Trouble-shooting software issues.
Presenting software updates and changes to clinical staff.
Supporting clinical staff’s software needs.
Co-Management of daily reconciliations of charges and allocations of payments.
Partner with IT manager who is responsible for hardware and software.
Management and compilation of clinic wide monthly and annual usage data.
Oversight and support of front office operations which includes maintenance of electronic records, patient appointments, immunization compliance, cashiering and medical records releases.
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Demonstrated professional experience working with and supporting electronic health/medical records in a clinical setting.
Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
Demonstrated organizational, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
Health insurance management expertise.
Knowledge of health information practices and outpatient medical center operations.
Experience in a college health care setting.
