Position Details
General Statement
This position works directly under the Technology Coordinator and Photography Coordinator and is responsible for the day-to-day repair of all film and photography equipment, computer software installation, and classroom, lab, and studio space functionality. The position directly supports the delivery of instruction by enabling our labs and studios to function as teaching spaces with properly functioning equipment for faculty and student use.
The department has over 14,000 pieces of film/video/photography equipment including cameras, sound devices, lighting, editing and scanning tools, enlargers, large format printers, and more. The repair technician is responsible for the servicing/maintenance of all the above equipment.
Duties and Responsibilities
Repair/maintenance of all film, photography and video cameras ( MILC / SLR / DSLR /Motion picture/Video)
Repair/maintenance of all film, photography, and video; lights, strobes, HMI , LED , electrical and/or grip equipment
Repair/maintenance of Epson large-format printers and darkroom equipment
Handling of photographic chemistry/mixing/disposal assistance
Repair/maintenance of all studios, classrooms, and lab spaces
Assist with the installation and updates of all Apple-based computer stations and related software
Aid in tutorial creations of proper gear usage & repair
Daily usage of Connect2 booking software and MaintainX inventory software
Maintenance and organization of repair workspace and storage areas
Documentation & other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
Substantial experience related to professional film, photography and video production or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
Currently demonstrates experience with Apple-based computer labs as well as technical expertise in Adobe Creative Cloud programs (i.e.; Photoshop, Lightroom, InDesign, Premiere Pro).
Documented experience in operating, troubleshooting, and/or repairing a variety of film, video and photography equipment, (i.e.; Epson Large Format Printers, MILC , DSLR , SLR , 16mm motion picture cameras, video cameras, lights, sound equipment, and postproduction).
Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Film or Video or a related field
AA degree or certificate from a technical program in film or photography/media arts
Demonstrated experience with some or all the following: Microsoft Teams, Capture One, Avid ProTools, and Black Magic DaVinci Resolve
Demonstrated experience with Connect2 Booking/Reservation Software
Demonstrated experience with MaintainX or similar inventory management software
The Successful Candidate Will
Demonstrate excellent communication skills including the ability to explain and clearly communicate detailed information both verbally and in writing
Demonstrate experience with Apple hardware and software
Work collaboratively in a positive and friendly demeanor with the SFP technical team
Genuine interest in Film/TV/Photography trends
Demonstrate proficiency in tutorial creation and documentation (i.e.; equipment condition reports, repair logs, etc…)
Efficiently manage multiple repair projects simultaneously, demonstrating strong time management and documentation skills to ensure each project is completed thoroughly from start to finish
Represent the School of Film and Photography ( SFP ) in a positive manner as well as follow instructions from the SFP Technology Coordinator and the SFP Photography Coordinator
Present and conduct themselves in a professional manner, including wearing work attire as appropriate for a representative of the department
